Liquid diet before surgery???
Hey yall, I was not told to do a liquid diet before surgery. My date is the 17th. But after reading several posts, I think I would like to. Does anyone have suggestions? I am going to a support group meeting Thursday evening and plan to pick their brains too, but I like to get different peoples opinions. I am very nervous because my doctor cancels surgery if the patient gains weight, and I weigh more then 350, so it is hard for me to make sure I haven't. Thus the urge to do the liquid diet thing.
Thanks ladies, I wish everyone the best luck with your surgery and recovery.
We are bettering out lives! We rock!!

Thanks Kerry for your post to my note,
I could not find my original note here, but found yours...
I have to be on liquid diet for 24 hours before the surgery. I dread that day... I bought myself a fat free organic chicken broth in a carton at Trader Joe's to drink all day. You actually can drink anything - even drinks with carbs that day. Make sure the broth is fat free, they want to have your liver rid of fat. Thankfully, I will have a full day meeting at work that day, so I will be busy and trying not to think of how hungry I am.
Goods luck to you too and please be strong!

I have to do a liquid diet for three days before surgery. I met the weight loss goal the doc set for me. Others in the program have to do 2 weeks before. The structure of that one is protien drinks, free fluids (water, crystal lite...) and veggies, tho not starchy ones. I think I'm going to do a sort of modified liquid for about a week before. Don't want to have the surgery cancelled because I may have gained weight.
best of luck.

Kerri,
Hey there girlie! I am having lap RNY on the 29th. 2 days before I have to do a "bowl prep". At 2:00pm each day I have to drink some fleet bowel stuff and then at 6:00 each day I have to take 2 laxatives Over the weekend I only get to consume clear liquids. I have been told to drink as much as possible. I am thinking I will take it easy on the food intake the entire time....what goes in must come out! So I guess if you wanted to make sure you were ready...I would go to the drug store and by some stuff to make sure you are "cleaned out". The night before my surgery I am going to relaxe and let my butt rest from all the work it will go through. Good luck and God bless. I am sure you will be good to go!!! Keep in touch and let us know how it goes! Here's to you!
My Dr has put me on a liquid diet a week before my surgery date 11-15-04. Then as normal the hospital has me on nothing after 12am the night before I go in. The first few days of the liquid diet I had a headache that wouldn't quit. Come to find out I was hypoglycemic, drank a little ginger rail and was fine after that.

Wow!
My husband's surgeon requires the following:
A shower on Monday (surgery is on Tuesday)
No food or drink after midnight.
That's it. No bowel prep. No liquid diet. And my husband gained 12 pounds from the last time he saw the Dr. So he's now over 500.
Surgeons sure are interesting!
Have a great day everyone!
Thanks,
Jennifer
