Dear all, I have surgery scheduled for Nov. 22. For breakfast this past week, I have tried three different protein shakes this week - ones recommended on this board (ProPlete Gold Banana Creme Nectar Fuzzy Navel, Elite Juicers Pina Colada). I have a really hard time getting them down. Is there another option for a post-op protein source?

I know what you mean !!!!!! that stuff should be a challenge on the show Fear Factor. by the way we have the same surgery date !!!! 12 more days....... I will think of you in California !!! anyways I have learned to use milk & strawberry yogurt. you need to make sure it's mixed well and then let it set. do not try to shake it & drink it. YUK!!! I bought some "atkins yogurt Smoothie " peach flavor & blended in my Pro Complex vanilla protien powder, add crushed ice if it gets to thick. or so milk. but you need to let it set a while, ow!! good luck. sue stephan cal.

Check out Real Meals @ protein-solution.com. The strawberry works real well with water since I am lactose intollerant. Each pouch has 60 grams of protein. I drink half in the morning and the other half at night. They sell samples so that you can try them out. Good Luck! Hannah

I love the Isopure Dutch Chocolate.(purchased mine at GNC) My 11 year old daughter is a very picky eater and she has been having one for breakfast every morning since the day she tried them. She loves them and usually will not eat breakfast, but said she would drink one of those if I would let her. She is very skinny so I felt real good about her getting in some nutrition for breakfast.

I just saw your post from last night and if you are still interested here is what I got from my Dr.: Two weeks proir to surgery, begin to "fast" using a high protein liquid supplement. The liquid diet will mentally prepare you for the post-operative diet restrictions. It will also shrink your liver to make the operation easier for your surgeon, and give you a jump-start on weight loss. You need to consume 70 grams of protein each day. Drink at least 12 cups of liquid a day at least half should be water. The day before surgery, consume only clear liquids At noon drink a bottle of Magnesium Citrate (laxative), that will clean the intestine and make your bowels move several times. Drink plenty of water, as it also tends to dehydrate you. Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your surgery. I think it all seems reasonable and the way I look at it, anything I can do to make the proceedure easier for the doctor, is ok by me. My date is 11/18 and I have been on the "fast" since last Thursday. It isn't too bad and I can say I feel like I am really preparing for the big change that is about to happen to me. Good luck on your journey!! TP

Po Jo I had my surgery on Nov 1. I am on my blenderized part of my diet and I have discovered that slimfast's low carb diet in the cans has 20 grams of protein. They are really good served chilled. Also Hood carb countdown dairy beverage has 12 grams of protein. I have a hood beverage 8 oz. glass 30 minutes before I eat breakfast. Between breakfast and lunch I have a can of slimfast and between lunch and dinner I have a can of slimfast. In the evening I have an 8oz glass of hood before i go to bed. That gives me my protein for the day. (64 grams). You should be taking in 54 to 81 grams of protein a day. Hope this helps you. Mike Russell

Hey PoJo; I was replying and just realized we are surgery twins !I also go on the 22nd if I get over this cold soon enough. Try Unjury. It is the absolute best out there (you'll have to hide it from your kids in fact). You have to get it from www.unjury.com . They have a discount maintenence program for bariatric patients. They also sell samlpes to try, and you can mix the unflavored into jello. It doesn't have the aftertaste or consistency of the others. I didn't care for Nectar either. Keep in touch!
