I feel sooo horrible!
Wow I will be having surgery and I'm eating sooo much!!! I feel so bad and guilty I guess I just keep having last meals! Although tomorrow and the Thursday I'm gonna behave and go on full liquids, I need Will Power! Suggestions anyone for the full liquid I already have some atkins shakes, but like what else could I have? PLEASE!
My surgery is for 7:30 am! I should be empty after the magnesium the night before, right?

Johanna,
I'm a week post-op and I know exactly how you feel right now. Just keep in mind that the last few days before surgery are very important! Personally....I was struggling to keep away from food because I knew it would be harder for me and the surgeon if I pigged out before the surgery. Food (especially meat) stays in your digestive system for weeks. Keep the faith. Tell yourself that it will soon be over and all you have to do is drink fluids for a couple of days before sugery. Then, when the surgery is done, you won't have to worry about it as much because you won't be hungry! Thats what my main problem was before the surgery! I was starving! But, I think because I was good at not eating solids for 3 days prior to surgery, it actually helped my recovery.
A couple of suggestions.....
eat creamed soups ( tomato), chicken broth, sugar free jello, and drink your shakes!!! The protein in your shakes are going to speed up recovery.
Also, try to read a good book. It'll keep your mind off of things and you won't eat as much.
and last but not least......I took benadryl to help me sleep at night. I would take 2 of them at around 8pm and I felt that it did 2 things for me.....it helped me to not eat late at night which is when I tend to eat the most and most importantly, I was getting the rest that I needed to prepare for surgery. And benadryl is completely harmless to your body!
I wish you luck! Think good thoughts...It works!

Johanna,
Thank you so much for this posting. I am having surgery 1 week from today and I am going through the exact same thing. To make things worse I have a partner in crime. My husband. He keeps telling me it will be my last time for this or that so I mind as well do it now. Whlie I still can. I know it's a lame excuse but you really get stuck in that last supper syndrome. I plan on starting liquis this Saturday. You can do it. We both can. Actually food is starting to disgust me because I've been eating whatever I want. The liqiud will be a welcome change.
Wish you well,
Happy
Hey ladies!
I know what you mean. My surgery isn't for another week and a half, but I weighed in last week for the official pre-op weight (3 weeks before surgery adte), and I had already gained 5 pounds from the "Last Supper Syndrome" 'Happy chick' spoke of. Ugh. Wrong way. I mean I sort of chuckled because it's the first time in my life I can say, "I'll lose that quick!" with a lot of confidence. I just don't want to balloon up before surgery; on the other hand there are a few last meals I know I plan to visit yet. I guess it isn't the last meals that are bad; it's the last candy bars, midnight snacks, desserts etc that are hurting me.
Good luck ladies!
Thank you for posting. I was wondering what to eat this weekend. I have been watching what I eat because I do not want to gain any more weight. I am down 23 pounds in about 4 weeks (not because I was told too--but I have stopped drinking pop and coffee on my own for me!). I am 6 days from my surgery and have cleaned the house over and over again. I am going crazy(it is worse that when I was pregnant!) I too have a partner in crime-my fiance--that keeps saying don't you want eat that for the last time. GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!!
I am on a 10 day full liquid diet, my surgery is Friday. Here are the things I can have:
cream soups of any kind
broths of any kind
SF jello
low fat cottage cheese
any non-carbonated SF drinks
protein shakes
I can have unlimited:
cream soups'
broths
SF Jello
drinks
I can have a total of only 3 x's a day
protein shakes
cottage cheese
skim milk
Sf puddings
I would ask the dietician what they expect you to have, they all have different perspectives.
GOOD LUCK
Jackie
Candy, that's one reason I'm being good. My surgeon hasn't given me an amount of weight to lose but has said that if there's weight gain, it all adds on as fat on the liver which makes surgery difficult. That's what might cause a cancellation of a surgery date. So, I've been sticking to this high protein, low-cal diet and will have that nasty fluid for as long as it takes.
Sure do miss my pizza and ice cream though.
