Surgery date (11/9/04) cancelled!!??
I am not sure if anyone can relate to how I am feeling right now. As some of you know, my surgery WAS scheduled for tomorrow, Nov. 9th. However after my pre-op at the hospital on Friday I received a phone call advising that my surgery would have to be cancelled at this time because I have an "extremely" low hemoglobin and the surgeon will not perform the surgery with it this low! I just posted a message last week about how I felt...nervous and excited at the same time...now how do you think I feel???!!! I have been through SO many emotions over the last few weeks and now to have to be put through another set of emotions! I am angry, depressed, confused and relieved all at the same time. Now I am facing a new journey to find out what is causing the low hemoglobin. My surgery is off until that is resolved. So...I will continue my fight to lose weight on my own until I figure out what is wrong. I appreciate everyones support with what I have dealt with over the last few weeks...I ask for your thoughts to help me through my new journey! I will be thinking of you all!
So what do you do now? Can you bring up your hemoglobin count and then start the process again? I know that it is a lot to take in but is there a way you can keep fighting to have this done?
I hope you will continue to fight for this to happen. Please keep us all posted and take care of yourself. I wish you well as you make it through this journey and on to the next one.
Take care and GOD Bless!
Jennifer
Sissy,
So sorry to hear that. I do know how you feel because I was scheduled for the 17th and when I went for my PATS on the 4th I was told that my iron level was low so I have to postpone my surgery also. I am taking iron pills 3 times a day to bring it up but I do know how you feel beacuse I am so ready and to now have to wait, it's torture. Keep your head up though, you have to thank God that it's not something worse. This can be fixed.
What are they doing to find the cause for your anemia? Anemia can be caused by a lot of things, especially if there are other labs that are abnormal. You really wouldn't want to have the surgery with a low hemoglobin count; it is the main component of your blood that delivers oxygen to all of your tissues. If it were low and you had surgery it could cause abnormal healing, tissue death, infection, and even death! I know it is disappointing to have your surgery cancelled, but try and see the positive side too. Finding that low hemoglobin may have saved your life!
Treatment for anemia can be as simple as adding iron to your diet, correcting the underlying cause, to giving you a blood transfusion. Keep us posted.
I'm so sorry for your "postponement". However, if you were on an airplane and something wasn't right for them to take off, would you want them to let you know and delay your flight to fix it? This is very much like that. I know all about the emotions you must be feeling. I'd be feeling the same way probably but please think of it like a postponement not a complete cancellation. Your surgeon should be giving you some info on what is needed and how to achieve it. Best wishes to you on your journey. I'll say a prayer for you... xoxo Alice
I AM SO SORRY YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS CANCELLATION. I feel so badly for you and pray that you improve and can have your surgery. I know it won't take long for you to get your hemoglobin built up. They really need to do that so you will do ok while in surgery. Try to hang in there and keep praying and taking one day at the time. My surgery is scheduled for the 29th and I am a nervous wreck already. I will pray for you and wish you all the best.
God bless,
Linda
