What is proximal and distal mean?

I know enough to tell you that it means the amount of the intestin that is from the pouch to the "Y" connection. I think this is a larger amount is proximal and the smaller amount is distal. From what I have read it depends upon the BMI and the surgeon. I may be really wrong on this info so if I am....someone PLEASE correct me. Linda

It is the other way around. The distal is the more intestine bypassed and the proximal is less intestined bypassed. The distal tends to have more weight loss and I have been told is reserved for people over 400.
