This may seem a strange question, but did anyone else find they started having periods soon after surgery? I have not had a period on my own (sans the pill) in over a year. Within a week of the surgery, I was having a period. I was excited, because this gives me hope to "overcome" my PCOS, and eventually getting pregnant (yes, in 2 years). I couldn't believe it happened that soon. Melissa -32, 3 weeks postop

My surgeon told me the surgery would probably start a period, I was having mine when I had the surgery it just lasted a little longer, then the 2 periods later was OMG, don't even want to reflect on that, but month 3 was a OK period, well as OK as they can be, I just Thank God it was not as bad as the 2 before. I'm doing well. Thanks for starting this post. I started out weighing 280. My weight has settled in the 147-151 range and I think that's about where I need to be. I've lost 10 sizes ~ slacks down from 26 to 6. I never thought it would happen to me, but I'm actually having trouble finding clothes in some stores because they're TOO BIG! If I had PS to get rid of extra skin, I'd probably be a size 4, but it's not that big of a deal to me. I feel good and I like the way I look. I'd rather spend the money on a vacation. Best wishes for continued success with your journey! Sue ZQ

So how long do the doc's expect you to be off work? Did you have a laproscopic surgery? While my employer is extremely supportive, they are curious about the timing. I live in Forest Grove, 26 miles west of Portland on the way to Tillamook. Things are shapng up in the way of support. I have a co-worker dropping me off the early morning of surgery. My daycare provider is keeping the kids the first three nights so my daughter wont need to miss school and my dad will keep them that weekend. That covers days 1 through 5. After that, I will have to take it day by day. Thanks for the offer of support. It will be nice to have someone to share the journey with! I am pleased to hear that you are doing so well with your recovery. Jill B.

My surgeon also said the surgery could start my period, but I thought I was safe because I had just finished about a week before. Even so, I started in the hospital, much to my surprize. My daughter also had RNY the day after mine. She has PCOS and has been on the pill, but she started a few days home from the hospital, even though it wasn't "time". The surgeon says the surgery resets all our cycles. It's hard to grasp how operating on your digestive system can affect your reproductive system in only a few days, but evidently this is the case. I'm sure you will lose enough weight to overcome your PCOS and be able to conceive on your own when the time is right. Isn't it wonderful that we live in these times when such medical miracles are available to us? I'm so thankful! I wish you much success in your journey!

Boy have we lead a parallel life or what. My then soon to be ex was up there for the same thing. It was a horrible week because all of his family said that I put her up to it because I was so mad that he left with another women. My daughter was 17. It was terrible and lasted a week. While there I ate but I sure didn't taste anything for a long time. Talk about being ripped apart. However the "lady" he was with they are now divorced and he is on to #3 now. NOW for my big news. I went to the Dr. yesterday and got my date. I could have had it done next week but I already had plans out of state so I went with May 10th. I was so excited I couldn't even sleep. Well I have lots to do today to prepare for my trip and to get ready for my hospital stay. Keep me posted on you. Later Barbara

I haven't had a spontaneous period in over 13 years, always had to take provera 4 times a year to bring on a period. I have PCOS with insulin resistance. Since surgery, I've had two spontaneous periods two weeks apart and now lots of spotting. I guess my body is trying to regulate itself after so many years of not being able to. I think the surgery helps with ovulation through weight loss and getting rid of excess estrogen stored in the fat cells, but PCOS is with you forever, the other symptoms/ side effects remain, but I think to a lesser degree because of the weight loss. As far as getting pregnant goes, I had my second and last son through a fertility drug called Clomid, and have no plans to have any more children. Good luck to you! Rachel

I DID I DID I worked out 3 days consecutively!! And I made my goal!! Last night I worked out 55 mins on the treadmill - and Im getting close to the 3mile mark!! I burned over 500 cals yesterday! See my post? I made the Century Club!! I worked out and changed my aerobic vs weight training and increased my protein immediately following my workouts- and Oh- I've added a new supplement - Creatine. Its supposed to assist in building muscle mass and getting rid of fat. I only started with it this week. Ive known about it over the years and never thought to work it into my daily supplements until now.. So I think the ceatine + consistent workouts is what made the difference..oh yeah, and not eating anything in high carbs for 2 days Hugs, Donna

I walked 2 miles this evening with DH. I buckled down 2 days ago and cut my carbs WAY back and boy can I tell! I've dropped 3 lbs now just from cutting my carbs back and getting in a little more water. So I'm finally back down to my lowest weight thus far and hoping to see the numbers on the scale continue to go down! Connie 269/173/163 surgeon's goal
