Topic: RE: 30th Birthday
Happy Birthday Eileen! I had my 41st birthday on Monday the 9th! I too did not meet my weight goal for my birthday, but I was only 2.1 pounds off. I was hoping to be under 200 pounds. I also got some new clothes for my birthday. I bought a nice black fitted jacket in a size Large! Makes me look even thinner than I really am. My weight loss is really slowing down, and I'm so nervous that it won't continue. I need to lose 42 more pounds to be at my goal. I weighed this morning and it looks like I've gained 3 pounds...back up to 205!

My problem is I generally may not be eating enough. Problem is, I am never sure what I *can* eat. My surgery was 11/24. I don't want to make the pouch stretch out and start being hungry, so it is a bit of a battle. I eat the protein bars occasionally, but they feel so heavy, even with all the chewing. I had one patient tell me I could not eat chicken or real meat til 6 months out. [I know that is not true]. I have had some different chicken meals, but I don't eat more than 3 ounces at a time.
Hell ya know? Two meals a day - BAD. One thing the doctors agree on that I have found is that you should have several very small meals as opposed to two larger meals.
I hope I didn't rattle like a box of rocks ~

I had surgery on 11/4 -- then my second surgery on 11/12 for a leak! I haven't been weighed since last month, so I go to the dr. tomorrow & I'll have the tally. Last month it was 40 lbs. and I think, based on my clothing that I've lost at least 10 more ... If I lose 13 or more lbs., I'll be under 200!!!!! (Insert prayer here)
I haven't been good about working out -- mostly because I've had a really deep open wound on my abdomen since the 2nd surgery which still hasn't finished healing, so I have to watch my exercise ... of course, a good excuse for me to be lazy!
I have developed an intense love affair with ham post-surgery. I can have small bits of pizza, I love salmon, swordfish -- most fishes. I miss pasta -- it's really touch & go with me, even if I have a very small amount it has caused me to throw up, but other times I can have a spoonfull & it's okay.
I'm working on getting all my liquids in, but I'm not always successful.
I guess I'd say I'm a work in progress!

duh! forgot to say that I have been eating nuts and protein bars now for a while. Atleast since one month out. I've tolerated them fine. The only problem with the nuts is the high fat content.
Take care, KM

I can tolerate peanut butter just fine. Sometimes if I am not hungry in the morning I just have a teaspoon or two of peanut butter for breakfast. I tried cashews and just didn't like them. I haven't tried any protein bars yet. I have been having problems tolerating soy.

Sure. I probably eat 3 meals a day with some snacks. My meals may be up to EIGHT oz one day and the next day, the same thing, I can only eat 2 oz of it!
I go to www.fitday.com to keep track of it all.
Someone on the main message board said that we should be getting
30-40 carbs
40-60+ protein
30% or less fat
and between 500-1000 calories.
I would run this by your surgeon first to see if he/she agrees, but it's easy to keep track on fitday.
hope this helps, Kristen

Hello All,
I am a little over 3 months post op and wondering if anyone is eating the following:
Peanuts
peanut butter
protein bars
how much are you eating at this point?
I feel like I am eating too much! I can eat anywhere from 2-6 oz of food at one time. I usually eat two meals a day with one protein shake or bar.
Does this sound right?
Thanks,
Nealy
Topic: RE: Goals...Goals and more Goals
I too found it easy to get turned off to the milk based shakes. I found bottles of stuff called Isopure at the vitamin store. They are very good, although they do taste a little sweet. There is 40 grams of protein in the 20 oz and it takes me forever to drink it, but I drink it all. I even enjoy it.
The folks at wlssuccess.com are terrific. I like the sample packs because you can toss them in your briefcase for a "just in case" kind of day where you just don't have time to stop and do the food thing. Both the nectar and the Champion whey stack are excellent. I bought Vanilla because I can toss a half a banana [potassium] and/or some frozen fruit, like berries, in there and it tastes really good.
I have found that my tolerances do change. Sometimes the milk based makes me ILL. Sometimes I crave it. Go figure!
I found a liquid vitamin that is totally great. It is at myvitanet.com and it only requires half ounce. I take that in the morning to get my day started.
My open RNY was on 11/24. I have lost somewhere over 40 lbs and many inches [can't remember], but it is way noticeable. Finally.
