Lisa,
I had my 3-month checkup today and my doctor was not too happy about my slow loss (Lap RNY 12/1/03, 248/209 or -39# since surgery).
His instructions for eating are very simple and very strict. Eat only meat and green veggies 3X a day (measured in the medicine cup!) for 6 months or until goal. Those are really tall orders for me and maybe if I could be disciplined enough to eat only that, then maybe I would have lost more. I will say in my own defense that even though I have strayed (even protein drinks are not allowed), it has not been by much and I always choose protein and low carb, no junk food, but cheating is cheating, whether it is a lot of cheating or a little.
However, we are human, we obviously have eating issues, and we are going to drop the ball sometimes. Start each day anew and promise yourself to do better. Tell yourself you are not a failure and that you will succeed this time. I think a one day at a time approach will be less overwhelming than trying to see the whole picture.
PS--I'm taking my own advice here also!

HI;
you are a loser; just don't worry about the scales. My wife hid ours'. I was checking daily; and getting depressed when they didn't move. Now she let's me weigh myself once a week. Also; I have found when the scales don't move; the inches come off. Our bodies are readjusting to the way of eating. I find if I follow the diet; lots of water; protein; protein; protein; and don't snack; well, if I do snack it's nuts; or something with protein; the weight seems to come off. We have to remember this surgery is just a tool to help. It really is up to us to develop the good eating habits; and exercise necessary to keep our bodies healthy. Never give up. mark g.
Topic: Any Lap-Banders who had surgery in 11/03?
I've been reading all the posts from everyone who had RNY, anyone have Lap-band? I had Band surgery 11/18/03 and I am down 28lbs. I want to hear any and everything from other banders.

Hi Tracey!
I had my lap rny on 11/11/03 too. I started at 306, now I'm 241. I've also been worried that I'm losing too slow. Last week and the week before, I did really well, but I haven't lost anything in a week. I think it's because I have been dehydrated. I was out of town for several days and I can't seem to catch up on my fluids. My mouth has been extremely dry to the point it's hard to swallow sometimes. I practically drowned myself with fluids yesterday, so hopefully I'll catch up soon.
I haven't thrown up since surgery, but I think I've had mild dumping when I felt a little icky after eating something a few times. When I feel that way I get really tired and sleepy and need to lay down for about 15 mins, then it's over. I usually can eat turkey or beef bacon, but today I had regular bacon and it made me feel bad. Too greasy I think. I love Subways lowcarb chicken bacon wrap. My husband and I always cut it in half and share it. (he also had surgery in Oct '03 and has lost 103 lbs!)
More and more people are starting to notice my weight loss. It's not just noticible in my face any more. I've started wearing shirts that aren't so big on me anymore (I wanted to hide everything) My new shirts are more form fitting now and look much better on me. It's so nice to be able to wear prettier clothes and feel prettier in them.
My husband and I are so happy we had the surgery. It's the best thing we could have done for ourselves, our children and our marriage! (we have 4 beautiful daughters) My husband hasn't taken ANY diabetic meds since surgery and has gone from 3 blood pressure meds to 1 low dose. He feels better than ever. My only complaint is that he's way too frisky now! Who knows, maybe I'll be more friskier after losing 100 lbs too!
We'll have to keep in touch.
Take care,
Leah Booth

Lisa.
Please go stand at your scales, bend down, pick them up and put them in storage. Double up on the water. Eat more protein, like turkey jerkey, and you should start losing.
I mean it about that scale thing. They constantly reminded me I am not in control but a failure "again".
You can email me if you would like someone to vent with. Good Luck

I am doing great I have lost 52 pounds so far so I only have about 60 more to go til my goal weight. I am almost half way there and its only been three months
I would highly recommend the banding to anyone, less complications and there is no weight loss window as there is with the gastric bypass. I can keep losing weight as long as I want to.
I am glad you are doing good too. Keep me posted!

Drink your water every day. I have lost 95 lbs since Nov 12th. I eat 2 meals a day. NO SNACKS. I eat protein first, then veggies or fruit (no starchy veggies). No protein shakes, I eat real food like meats and cheeses. No sugar, No milk, No bread, No soups or liquids with meals. Did I mention drinking water and NO SNACKS? I exercise 30 min - an hour, 5 - 6 days a week either on weights or swimming. I never ever get hungry, but I do have cravings sometimes. Sometimes I substitute decaf tea with Splenda and some lime for part of my water.

It sounds to me like you are doing GREAT!! I had my surgery on 11/19 and I started at 247 and I'm down to 202. My doctor is happy with my progress and so am I. I do wi**** was a little faster but I'm still happy. I have not had any problems also except for dumping a few times...I'm extremly senstive to sugar and I have to be careful and check the sugar contant in everything; but that's OK with me. I'm right now a little bored with food and can't...sometimes I find myself not eating because I can't think of WHAT to eat....I did love chilly for a while ...also smoke turkey from the deli...sometimes cheese sits well with me and other times...NO...so its a gamble. As far as change in myself...I'm much happier and find myself taking care of my appearance more...which is a GOOD thing...My husband is also happy ...My weight has been a major issue in our marriage for the past few years. Good luck on your journey and good luck to all of us. Take care.
