I am at my goal and have been at stable weight for a month and a half. My plastic surgeon took pictures and submitted everything to Blue Cross. Received a call today that Blue Cross denied it as cosmetic. They will send a letter in a few days with the appeal procedure. Unfortunately I do not have any rashes but do have back problems which I hope surgery would help. Does anyone have any information of what to put into the appeal letter? Thanks in advance for your help.

Not me, but I am getting ready to go through the same thing. My rashes are not such that I have been going to the doc for them, so they have let me know ahead of time that it will be an uphill battle. Fortunately [well okay - not fortunately], I have two blown discs in my lumbosacral spine, so I am hoping they will view this as a means of mitigating what it will cost them if I have to have the back surgery [which, between us, will NEVER happen] Good luck and keep us posted ~ dmj

I was told that if you have to appeal, make sure you tell them of the emotional issues (and not to get personal, sexual issues) associated with the hanging skin. It is embarassing but I am told that it works. Make sure appeal letter has the photos your doctor took or some you have taken yourself. Document your back pain because your plastic surgeon may not have. They use diagnosis codes and if he did not include back pain they will not approve it. Don't lie, but don't sugar coat the issue either. Think of every little thing. Good luck
