I have about 80 oz of water a day - 108 grms of protein about 1000 calories give or take and I'm just not loosing. I haven't seen my surgeon since December ( I lost my insurance) but I have a appointment 8/27 I'll have to self pay. I can only eat about 1 cup of food at a time. Whats wrong??????????

Remember, everyone looses at a different pace. Do not get discouraged!!!!!!!!!!!! Remember loosing 1/4 pound a week going to Weigh****chers etc.... It would have taken a very long time to loose 80 pounds. You will keep losing slowly or the body slows down on the loosing for a reason. Mine has stopped and slowed down almost SLOW!!!!!!!!!! I havn't lost in 2.5 weeks. I am not concerned. The body has to stop loosing sooner or later or we would die. Do the chart on the main page and figure how much weight you should loose in one year. I am way ahead of the normal. at 8 months i have lsot 102 pounds, but i remind you everyone is on a different level. The bigger you start the faster you will loose, compared to someone that only needed to loose 75 pounds compared to someone who needs to loose 200. Keep eating right and learning to eat the right things. Deb

Relax and take a deep breath......Try lowering your protein a little, my doc suggesed around 60 grams each day and then up your calories to about 1200 each day. I have heard that too much protien can slow your weight loss down. Also, you should talk to a nutritionist to see if maybe you are eating too much fat or just eating the wrong foods. You also have to remember that losing 70 pounds in 9 months is nothing to shake a stick at. My mother had RNY about 5 years ago and only lost 50 pounds the first year and then lost another 85 the next year. So far she hasn't neded plastic surgery for saggy skin because she lost so slow that her skin bounced back. I cannot say the same for myself. ((((HUGS)))) Dawn

don't be discouraged. we all lose at a different pace. Everyone's body adjusts to the surgery different. You can't compare yourself to others. Yes, look at the weight loss chart from the home page and remember the average is (I have heard) that you will lose 70% of the excess weight in a year. The surgery is just a tool to help us. Diet and exercise are critical to the success. Follow the eating plans from your doc. Seeing the doc is also important. I understand all too well, the loss of insurance; but follow up is important. The follow up blood work is also important. See if you can work out something for payment with your doc. keep us informed. mark g.

Belinda - I felt like it took forever to lose down the 74 lbs I have lost. But that is 3/4ths of the weight I need to lose!!! I need to lose another 35 lbs and I want it gone YESTERDAY. The Doc said I was not eating enough at the last meeting. The body requires 1200 calories a day to be fuel efficient. Relax! Have a yummy cup of vanilla Dannon carb control yogurt with some fresh berries in it and breathe deep! You will think you are having the most luscious Creme Brulee and you will have added 60 calories of nutrition! [leaves a hug]

Hi! I am having the same problem, I started out at 309 and had surgery 11/10/04 and now weigh only 232 a total of 77 pounds and the scale seems to be moving slower and slower each month. I am only about half way to where I want to be. I need to lose at least another 75 or more pounds. I hope by the reply's that I just read that I continue to lose slow but steady to get close to my personal goal. I joined a gym myself but haven't been consistint with going (shame on me) Keep your chin up Belinda, I am sure we will get there if we make the right choices. Good Luck, Darlene

It sounds like you are doing well in eating mostly high protein things, but I don't see how you can get in over 100 grams of protein and only 1000 calories--I suggest you try going to fitday.com and put in a day's intake, then see what the calorie count is. Make sure you measure portions accurately! If it is really only about 1000 calories then you may be eating too little. Not enough calories can put our bodies into starvation mode, when they fight to keep every pound. In this case more calories can help. Try for 60-80 grams of protein and around 1500 calories. But there is more to this than what you do or don't eat... For me, exercise has been the key in maintaining a steady weight loss. The surgery gives us a tool but we have to do our part, and exercise is the best thing we can do to maximize our weight loss. Exercise doesn't just burn calories while you are doing it, it builds muscle mass, whi*****reases your resting metabolic rate, which allows you to burn even more calories, and so on. When I tell people I exercise 5 times a week one of the main responses I hear back is that "I don't have time for that..." These are mostly 30-minute sessions, folks! If you just can't free up 2-1/2 hours a week, then you really need to simplify your life, or re-prioritize, or something! Come on--who can't do 2 1/2 hours a WEEK?! We had major surgery and changed the way our digestive systems function in order to lose weight and be healthier. It doesn't make sense to do that and then sit on our butts hoping the weight will just fall off by itself. You missed the summer. Don't miss any more! Get moving and keep moving! Hi Belinda. I think that you should try to change some things, starting with the amount of protein. That seems like a lot to me, but maybe not. I have found that when we plateau, our body has adjusted to the changes, so we need to "trick" it by doing some different things. So, try to eat less protein-maybe 40-60 g per day. Then, I cannot stress enough HOW IMPORTANT EXERCISE IS! It has made all the difference for me and I know it without a doubt. You need to get yourself into a routine where you get at LEAST 30 minutes of exercise in a day 3-4 times a week. Gradually increase the frequency and time and over time, it WILL make a huge difference, not only in overall weight loss, but energy level, metabolism (which controls weight loss), and how we feel overall. You cannot make excuses that you don't have time, but you are making time for everyone else but YOU!. Remember, you did this surgery to get healthier, so making exercise a part of your life and routine is part of it. Hang in there and think about what I suggested but definitely, you need to change something to make your weight loss go better for you. Take care...

Don't be discouraged, I know how you feel. I had my surgery on the same date as you, and I haven't lost much more than you. I constantly compare myself to others all the time and feel like I haven't lost enough, eventhough I haven't been this weight or fit into a 12 or 14 in 6 years. I started running again after years of not being able to and I have not lost mIuch since I started running again. My clothes are looser, so I'm losing inches. I only run at home on the treadmill at home since I have a two year old and I work nights. I force myself to do it all the time because it lifts my mood and gives me the energy I need to get through it all working these crazy hours. It has sort of taken my mind off the big plateau. Just think , have you ever lost this much weight in such a short time, I bet not. Just hang in there and know you're not alone.....Good luck, Paula D.
