Is there such a thing as a 6 mo wall? I was 280 prior to surgery and at 6mo I was 216 and now at 7mo I'm only at 214 down from size 26-28 to size 14-16. I feel its not enough and over the last month theres only a 2 lb loss. is that normal? What should I weigh? I was told I should end up at 150. Is something Wrong???

I hit a plateau at 6 months--it lasted two weeks during which I actually gained a pound, but then it broke and I ended up losing 11 pounds that month. As long as you are doing what you are supposed to be doing--eating right and exercising 4 or more times a week, you will lose what you are supposed to lose. That said, I am not sure that 150 pounds is going to be a realistic goal. With an RNY the usual weight loss is 65-75% of excess weight. If you are 5' 4" (my height) a weight of 150 pounds is a "normal" BMI of 25. 75% of your excess weight would be 97.5 pounds, which would make a realistic goal more like 182 pounds. If you are much shorter it could be less, of course. Remember that the goal of bariatric surgery is to improve our health and prolong our life, not necessarily to get into a size 8. I was 294, am now 195, only 20 lbs to go...But for the last 5 weeks haven't lost a THING. From a size 26 to a 12....Happy but annoyed at the serious stall. It must get better...only 20 lbs left to go...

I am at 223 lbs from 329 and I am in a size 18. I think from what I am hearing from others who had the surgery more than a year ago... you lose more in inches than you do in pounds. And that is what makes the differences.

I'm so glad to hear that someone else is experiencing this 6 month wall!! I weigh 169lbs. down from 263lbs. I want my 100 mark sooo bad and this month I just can't seem to move the scale very much. Don't get me wrong I'm thrilled that I've lost 94lbs. but, I want more and I want it now!! Generally each month I've been losing 10lbs. I know in my rational mind that the weight loss will slow down now that I'm getting close to my goal (145lbs.). But, somehow I almost feel like a failure for not losing more this month (6lbs.). I also know that exercise is not the problem for me because I exercise 7 days a week. (Unfortunately, I don't know the meaning of dumping syndrome.) I wish I had some great advice for you but, I'm just as frustrated as you are! Hopefully it will pass! Good luck to you!!

Hi I am down to 240 from 309 and have only lost 69 pounds since 11/10/04. I went from size 30/32 to 18/20 so far depends on the brand of clothes. I saw my surgeon for my six month check up and he seems to think I am doing fine. I have only lost about 9 pounds since April and have been getting stuck for weeks at a time. My surgeon said as long as your losing not to worry, it will come off in time and that your body continues to chang constintly even after you have lost all your weight. Good Luck to all for much success. Darlene

I have the very same problem. I hate the plateaus and the seem to be frequent. I have finally reached 70 lbs. Now if I can just keep it going, I will be so happy. I only have 50 left to go!!!!
