Okay, I'm going there - Alcohol!

Before I begin, I don't need any lectures and I have already talked to my doc about alcohol ~ (I only say that because on the main board, someone made a comment and I couldn't believe some of the feedback she received... she was only looking to see what other people have experienced!! ) I know we all are 3-4 mos out and was wondering has anyone experienced with alcohol???? I was not a big drinker before surgery, but LOVED my JACK & COKES and an occasional girls night out! I just recently in the last mo. or so tried a little wine - which I drank maybe 3/4 of a glass and boy, I felt that and went right to sleep! I have also tried light beer while I was on vacation, seems I tolerated that a little better, but couldn't drink much... didn't really need to.. but the buzz seemed to go as quick as it came!! As far as my doc, he said special events or occasions is one thing, but during these most valuable months of weight loss - stay away from alcohol, as it it dead calories. He advised me once I have locked in my weight and am more stable, there will be a time and place for it. But I do have to say, I do miss the occasional going out and dancing and drinking with the girly girls! Jess 258/195/135??

I just recently had a drink for the first time. I had a white russian. Drank about half of it and was feeling pretty good, drank the whole thing and I was ready for a nap. But it only lasted for about an hour then felt normal again. My dietician told me that I could drink on special occasion, but still nothing carbonated. She suggested just vodka and OJ, but I like my drink a little creamer thats why I went for the white russian.

Ummmmm...A White Russian sounds sooo good, I would have been scared of the milk!!! I definately know what you mean about the nap thing! Can we have OJ? I know that has a lot of sugar too... But I guess diluting may make the difference!!

I have been drinking OJ since about 2 weeks out, when I keep getting dizzy and found out I had low blood sugar. So now I have at least one glass of OJ a day.

Jessica, I do not think too many people can say that they haven't cheated with crackers, ceral, candy, etc (whatever their vise is). Liquor is just another "cheat". We all cheat a little. Just remember that alcohol will affect you alot faster so be careful. Just "nurse" your drink and have fun!

Last night I finally decided to try it. I made myself a dirty vodka martini. After two sips I was feeling pretty good. After four sips, I think I was drunk. Then came the headache and them I poured the rest out and went to bed. I guess I really have become a cheap date I think I will skip the drink for now on. ((((HUGS)))) Dawn

That has been my experience as well. I loved Margaritas now I can't even drink one without having to call for a ride home--so never mind for now. Maybe in a few more months.

Well I too was wondering how it will affect us. My 40th birthday was last week and I was planning to have a drink to celebrate. The plans fell through and ended up getting rescheduled for this weekend. I still may have a drink but I was thinking about a little Vodka with some Crystal Light Grapefruit or maybe the Orange Pineapple. It will make me feel like I am having something fun and no sugar in the Crystal Light...Just a thought...I don't plan to make a habit of it as I wasn't a drinker much pre-op but on special occasions...
