I had my surgery 11/3/03 down 71 lbs today. I am not dropping sizes like everyone else seems to. I was in a 28 before surgery and am just now getting into a 24. What is wrong? Anybody else had this problem? I was very apple shaped and carried my weight mainly in my abdominal area, so I am sure this doesn't help. I just want to know that I am not going to be in Lane Bryant shopping in a year still! Any suggestion? Heather

Let me encourage you to take your measurements every week. At first it took forever for the sizes to change for me. When we are that big you just can't see it. But when you get smaller it will be a new size with in 10 pounds or so. Don't be discouraged. Get out your measuring tape. I was on a plateau for 3 weeks never lost a pound but dropped 12 inches. It really does help to see the tape measure move. Hang in there. Everyone loses at a different rate. 11-25-03 - 57 pounds - 53 inches

Hi, Heather: Don't be discouraged. I am 10 weeks post-op and have lost 46 pounds to date. I have only dropped one size in slacks to date and can still wear most of my pre-op slacks. Luckily, I have dropped several sizes in bras and blouses. It's very noticeable and I feel great about it. I was discouraged that the weight wasn't coming off as fast as I thought it should. I consulted with my surgeon yesterday and he's very pleased with my progress. he also reminded me that at age 60 I am not going to lose as fast as the younger people. In spite of not yet being able to get into regular sizes I am happy with my results. The weight continues to come off and I know that one day I'll again be a size 12.

We had surgery the same day and we wore the same size clothes before and have lost about the same amount of weight (65lbs last monday 01/19/04) are you 5'8"-5'9" by any chance?? I'm an apple too! I have sooo much belly! The thing for me is that I have lost alot in my legs and upper body but not much in my belly! I have heard, since surgery, this saying You gain from the bottom up and lose from the top down. So far pretty true. I lost a lot in my face, boobs and arms. Not much in my belly and some in my legs. I get measured every 2-4 weeks. It's really nice to see how things are changing on those times when my weight isn't changing much. I started at 300 lbs. How about you? As for sizes, it really depends on the brand. I can fit into Old Navy's size 20's, but not other brands 22's! Take care Kristen
