Aching Legs At Night

I have been having leg problems - mostly at night. I feel like my legs ache so bad that I just can't hold them still. I get up in the night and pace my kitchen for an hour or more before I can hopefully go back to sleep. My Dr. first thought it was a calcium deficiency and put me on more of that - didn't help. My other Dr. thought it might be sciatic nerve pain and gave me Tylenol with Codeine to get through until it went away in a few days - didn't go away. Then I read an article in our local paper about Restless leg Syndrome caused by potassium deficiencies. It sounded just like my problem! I called my Dr., who checked my potassium and sure enough it's low. Apparently this isn't uncommon with gastric bypass. So, if anyone else is having problems with their legs aching I urge you to get your potassium checked. A potassium deficiency can be a very serious problem and very easily fixed. Just thought you all might like to know!

Thank you for the information! I occasionaly get restless legs, but I usually just do some exercises & the feeling will pass. I will have to have my potassium checked!

yes, this is very true. I was told I could have a bananna a day. It seems to help.
