I have been a silent observer of all you wonderful people up till now. What great messages, support, and humor I've found! I'm finally deciding to write because my surgery is tomorrow, the 18th, and today I am on clear liquids, with some bowel prep stuff going on as well. I'm hungry, and it's so hard not to eat that I thought - Fine, I'll TYPE! Any comments on the whole bowel prep process? I'm a little nervous. Probably just as apprehensive about how I'll make it through the day today, as I am about tomorrow. I guess it's all just part of the process! I can't wait till tomorrow, and the day after that, and the day after that, etc! Thank you all for your messages of support and advice. See you on the losing side!!! Karen

Wow !! So close! Well I wish I could be of more help on the bowel prep thing, but my surgeons office doesn't require any pre op preps... not sure why.... So I can eat up till 8 pm the night before and liquids till midniight... And my surgery is scheduled 1st thing in the AM.... Anyway I send best wishes to you, come back and update when you get home, we'd love to hear from you !!

I'm scheduled for a lap band tomorrow (11/18) My head hurts so bad from clear liquids only, and I was told not to take aspirin or ibuprofen. It hurts so much I can't even be scared. I'm supposed to take Milk of Magnesia when I get home from work. Good luck, we can make believe we are holding each other's hand. See you on the other (skinny) side. JoAnn Brozowski CT

hi Karen; My name is mary and from mount vernon washington, i had my open RNY on nov. 10th. I know what you mean when you say you are very hungry, I was so that way the day before surgery. It will get better, When i got to the hospital the next morning, the nurse asked me how i was doing, i said VERY VERY VERY HUNGRY!!! She said she understood, there were so many people who showed they cared. Hang in there, I will be praying for you, just remember.. don't wait till the nurse comes in to ask you to walk,,, do this on your own.. i mean ask to get help to walk, they don't push you, but all the positive things you do to get yourself well, they do write it down and talk to your doc.. And when you get home, relax, dont think just relax, also get a long pillow so you can wrap that around you when you sleep, dont' expect yourselfe to sleep very long, i went from my chair to my bed several times in one night, fell alseep both ways, let people do things for you. in about 2 or 3 days you will feel better. honest.. this comes from someone who thought i would never feel normal again.. and it's coming around.. so hang in there..

I know that can be so hard. I had to have clear liquids and protein shakes for 2 weeks before surgery and nothing after 8pm the night before, not a sip of water, meds or anything. I know that it seems like a long time, but you will get through. I just kept thinking, this is just another step to get where I want to be. Lots of luck. ~Tiffany
