Countdown has begun....

My surgery date is 11-24-03 and I am counting every day. I even have my children, co-workers, parents, and anyone I can think of counting with me. On 11-11-03 I go for my last appt. with the doc and to get the blood work done. I'm soooo excited that I find it hard to sleep. I'm putting my poor husband through hell 'cause I'm having trouble sleeping. Any suggestions, I don't want any drugs.

Hi! I too know the anxiety you are going through. My surgery is this Friday and I am finding myself very irritable. I have found two things that help me calm down enough to sleep. First, a nice warm bath with my favorite music playing in the background right before bed does wonders for me. The second and perhaps more helpful, is talking to people who have already had the surgery. Just today I went to lunch with a woman who is 2 months post-op. It was so nice to talk to her, hear about her experience, and see that she actually does eat like a fairly "normal" person. I think I'll sleep pretty well tonight! Ronda Forsberg

I was extremely nervous, anxious, scared, etc. I thought for sure I wouldn't sleep either, but the bath idea works. Try to find a nice calm environment (I know it is hard with kids, I have triplets) and just listen to some calming music, classical works for me, close your eyes and think of what a great feeling it will be when you are all done with surgery, and feeling good again. I promise you, it went ssoooo quick for me, I had mine on Thursday and came home this past Saturday, and am already back to normal activities. I look back now and think...all that worrying, and it was over that quick!!! Try the meditation, it think it will help you....Good luck, and god bless you, Kathryn
