Congrats with your surgery date...I myself had a lap RNY, but my best friend had it open. Not a bunch different, other than the recovery time is quite a bit more. They got her up the next day, and walked her a bit. I think she stayed in the hospital for 4 days, where I was there from Thurs (surgery day), and went home on this past Sat. She was not able to lift for a longer period of time, and could not go back to work for at least 6 weeks, whereas the lap RNY you are only required normally to stay out of work for around 2 weeks. She did fantastic with it. I know the recovery is harder for sure than the lap RNY, but the results are all the same....you will be a "loser" before you know it...LOL. Good luck and god bless, I'll keep you in my prayers. Kathryn

I'm not scheduled until the 18th, but my friend had open also and our surgeon's get us up 4 hours after surgery. She is 4 weeks out and said she's feeling fantastic, and walking around wonderfully. She still wears her binder for support. Good luck on your surgery. Laura

Sherry, I had Open RNY last Tuesday. I didn't get up the first day/night...as much as I kept saying I needed to, they really wouldn't let me, and I was in a bariatric bed. I got up first thing the next morning. I was pretty miserable, but each day my mobility and strength got better. I am one week post op today and I put on Jeans, we went to Wal-Mart, I was able to sleep pretty comfortable last night too. I would just listen to your body. I know the more I got up and moved, the better I felt. Just take one day at a time. If you have any questions, shoot me an email! You will do great!
