Sadly, it's true. One of the side effects of having this surgery (and the following weight loss through malabsorbtion) is hair loss. I am still preop, but when I had my appendix out when I was younger I had my hair fall out a few months later. Not all of it by a long shot, but quite a bit. I went to a dermatologist and she gave me perscription rogaine (not literally rogaine, but the same concept). My hair stopped falling out immediately. Others have said that Biotin and upping your protein intake help considerably. If it makes you feel better, I've never seen anyone go bald from having WLS Good luck to you April

It's something that freaks me out because my hair is pretty thin to begin with. Vitamins and Protien are paramount!!! If you can get the 60+ grams of protien a day (probably not possible at first) and take your vitamins (also may be hard at first), it should lesson the hair loss. Also, if it starts falling out, a good hair cut could help in terms of people noticing. The hair does grow back...from what i have been told it starts around the 3 month mark and goes till about the 6 month mark. This is all from what others have told me. YOu may notice the hair more than anyone else. I know it's not what you wanted to here, but I hope that helps!
