Well I just got notice that my insurance did not pay for my initial visit with my surgeon. They said my plan does not cover obesity. I wonder if this means they will not be covering my surgery. It's so frustrating. When I called the insurance about they said that if and when the surgery gets approved then they will reevaluate any of these charges. Just nice to know that I may be stuck with a $300.00 bill that I definitely can't afford. My surgery is scheduled for November 12, and I still have no clue whether its going to be approved. The insurance company requested more information including a psych eval and chart notes for the last 3 years from my physician. That's really easy to get.... Well I just needed to vent a little Hoping things work out eventually Chris RNY 11/12/03

Christine, I hope you get your approval quickly. It is amazing what the visits and special tests cost. Mary

My insurance did not pay for my initial visit either... I had to pay for it out of pocket. Make sure that the diagnosis code on your paperwork is for MORBID OBESITY, not just Obesity. It makes a huge difference. The very best of luck to you, and if there's ANYTHING I can do to help, feel free to email. I had to fight my insurance as well. April

Hi Chris: After fighting 7 months with CIGNA to get approved just last week, I clearly understand your pain. After all we pay in to the insurance companies you'd think they'd want to approve something that would lessen the chances of them having to pay for a heart attack! Sunie RNY 11/11/03
