Pre-op tests may have saved my life.
I was scheduled for my RNY on Nov. 4th. During my pre-op testing, I failed the chemical stress test. It turns out that I had a 40% blockage in my heart. I had it cleared, and my new surgery date is Nov. 12th. If I hadn't been tested for surgery, I might have had a heart attack or strike without warning. I am soooo glad for the pre-surgery testing.
You are so right! Many of us complain about the burden of having to do all this pre-op stuff ( Mine was in 5 or 6 different appotinments) but in all, it is such a good safety net!
It seems like you have an AWESOME OUTLOOK!! You turned what some of us would have made a negative (date postponement), into a positive (life saver). If only I could be like that more often!!
Good luck to you on the 12th!
Kristen
Barbara, you and I share the same surgery date now. Wishing you the best. I had to have a cardiac clearance, pulmonary testing, critical care doctor clearance .. with each one I reminded myself that they were doing it for my well being and with each clearance it meant that I had a greater chance of no complications. It is hard to go thru the extra testing, but as you said so very worth it!!! I'm so glad they found the blockage and have made things OK for you to go ahead with your surgery. Mary
No doubt.
Thank GOD for those tests. It had to be scary to find out you had a blockage like that.
I know if I hadn't decided to get WLS that I would have NEVER known I had sleep apnea. I found out I stopped breathing once a minute over the course of the night. That was terrifying to me.
I'm so happy you got things taken care of,
April
