A WEEK FROM TOMORROW
HEY GUYS MY SURGERY IS A WEEK FROM TOMORROW! NOV 6TH. I CAN'T BELEIVE IT. THIS IS ALMOST 2 YEARS IN THE MAKING(RESEARCH TIME INCLUDED)!!!! TOMORROW I GO TO GET MY MEDICAL CLEARANCE FROM MY PCP!!! MY BLOOD WORK CAME BACK GOOD. AND I HAVE A QUESTION? WHEN EVERYBODY SAYS PRE-OP... IS THAT THE PRE REGISTRATION? SORRY STUPID QUESTION.
Congratulations! You are so close to your date!
i'm sure you are excited along with some unwanted 'nerves'!
I had my pre-op today!
Pre-op is not the pre registration. The pre-op appointment is to make sure that all your test results are in. Any questions you have & to go over the surgery & what to expect in the hospital.
They also went over the bowel prep today & gave me a prescription for some antibotics to take the day before surgery. They talked about the liquid diet for 2 days before the surgery. Talk a little about diet after surgery, just about the liquids for the frist week.
You go back to see the doctor one week from surgery, then they will talk about the next phase of your diet & on from there.
This is the best time to bring your questions that you have.
They gave me directions to the hospital, a map & told me what time to be there.
We also talked about the risks & a healthcare directive, that is a form that you fill out saying what you would like done if you are unable to respond or make decisions on your own, that was the scary part!
That was about it, mostly a ton of information! Take notes!
Good luck on your surgery! Mine is November 4th!
Wishing you the best for a speedy recovery. Pre-op can have different meaning according to the facility. For some it mean a complete physical, blood work, and talking to the anthesiologists and finalizing hospital paperwork. For others lab work and/or talking to the anethesiologist and finalizing paperwork for the hospital. For me, it just meant going over my lab results and medical history with a nurse from the anethesiolgist dept. My phyiscial and lab work had to be done within the last month and I had to give them the written reports of them yesterday at my pre-op appt. If someone says they have a pre-op appt, it means they are very close to their surgery date and finalizing everything needed. You will also find many (including myself) refer to ourselves as pre-op. That just means we are waiting for surgery and may or may not have a date etc. Mary
