haircolor warning
I just found this out....
I cut and pasted it from my post on the California message boards
Here is what they say,for me, 1 week pre-op, NO do not color your hair. It may affect falling out and the chemicals may affect the meds you will be on. I asked about someone who is 1 month preop and they said it would be ok, but not reccomended.
ALSO, even WORSE it is reccommended that you do not color your hair SIX MONTHS after surgery!!!!! ahhhhh! I will DIE!
She says that the reason you lose your hair is the lack of protein. About 3 months post op, your body is probably at its lowest. So it only gives protein to the most important places. That means your hair and nails will suffer. Dying your hair, will only make it weaker.
Good to know, I was about to dye my hair today, and I saw the question posted!
WHEW! I'd rather go dark than go bald!!
Excellent timing! I was at the store yesterday with hair color in my hand when I suddenly decided, "naw". Thank God!! I'm so glad you posted this important information. We'll have to stay away from the color until summer of 2004....then look out. Do you think it would be smart to have fiberglass nails put on post-op?
Hi Kristen, this question on the California Board got me to call my surgeon's office and they said the hair color won't make a difference, because we are going to experience hair loss regardless. As for the acrylic nails, they told me I can keep them but need to remove the color or have a french manicure. As with most everything else doctors have such diverse opinions. However, since I'm already losing my hair I'm not taking any chances, I'll just be having it cut tonight instead of the usual color and highlights! Oh well like you said rather have dark hair than no hair!! =}
Ok, just wondering the same thing myself here....
i made an apt for sat to get my roots done. my surgery is monday. any ideas on whether that is ok or not? I was kinda thinking that to do it after surgery wouldnt work out that is why i want to do it now a few days before surgery.
any info on this?
hugs, jennifer
Kristen,
Thanks for the information. I too am going to talk to my surgeon when I meet with him tomorrow. I know two people who had the surgey who didn't use hair color who still lost hair. I am under the impression (which I don't like), that from 3-6 months your hair will thin until your "levels" could go back to normal.
My hair is thin enough as it is, and I find that having highlights gives my hair a little more volume. Plus a good hair cut helps too.
Anyway, I thank you for the info! I just freaked at that news because we are moving 6 weeks after my surgery and I am thinking great not only will I still be fat, but my hair will look like crap as I go on job interviews in San Diego. UGG!!
