3 1/2 years Post Op - Gaining Weight and Scared!
HELP!
I am so out of control AGAIN. I started looking into revision surgery out of desparation. I was 292. I got down to 143. I am now back up to 191. I am so depressed. The depression causes me to eat more and then I gain more. I am handling life the same way I did before my surgery and I can't get a handle back on my life. My homelife and worklife is suffering due to my lack of self worth AGAIN.
Does anyone have some words of encouragement or a similar situation you have been able to get out of?

Lynn,
Before you keep beating yourself up, have your surgery checked out to make sure that everything MECHANICALLY is in tact. Although not necessarily common, you could have a staple line disruption [SLD]. What this means in layperson terms is that the staple line has opened and food is going into your "old" stomach, allowing you to eat much more. This happened to me. My surgeon, who is terrific and very talented, was "certain" everything was OK ... he had at that point done over 600 GBS and had never had a problem ...but I insisted that it be checked out. Well, we did ... and what do you know, the staple line had "broken" and thus I was once again able to eat as much as pre-GBS because food was going into my "old" stomach.
I had to have another surgery to fix this problem and was then able to lose again. Now, there are of course many other things that could be going on with you ... but don't assume that it's somehow "your fault" until you know for sure that evrything about your GBS is still "mechanically" OK.
And let me know what you find out!

It's been almost four years for me. I lost 140, but I 338 when I had surgery. It;s still about about what your eating. We can eat more now, and wven sweets. We still need to exercize. Things like soda and coffee can prevent you from lossing weight. It's many calories a carbs.

HELP....I share her pain...HOW did you find out you had an issue? Did your insurance pay for checking it out, and the repair? Was it as long of a recovery as the first surgery? I am Nov. 2001, was down 100 and now gained 40....seems like I am in the same spot she is...on anti depresents....feeling bad about me....
Hi my name is Donna and I am almost 7 years out have gained 30 lbs just in the last 5 months have had several hernia sx and will have another in November of this year (2008) THIS WAS THE BEST IDEA HOWEVER WHAT IS THE SUCCESS RATE AFTER 5 YEARS! we need follow up appt.s and yes my insurance has paid for all the surgeries, recovery was worst for the hernia than for the WLS, I am on anti-depresents as well feeling really old and broke down and I though this was going to be great, I can't get well enough to enjoy this new life that is falling down around me, keep in touch please
