Liquid Diet!

Has anyone started your liquid diet?  I have prepped and starting to get ready.  I have to do a 7 day pre-op.  After a little research it looks as though the liquid diet helps shrink your liver to improve your surgery.  I start October 11!

I start my liquid diet on Wednesday. I have to do two weeks on it. I have already bought everything I need so I am just anxiously waiting for the time to start!

My surgery date is October 15 too. Been on liquids since October 1, it is hard, been drinking the Unjury brand, I like their shakes and soup and have been pretty satisfied.  I would love to eat a meal again, but it looks like another two weeks before I can chew food.  Good luck.

I started mine on Friday.  It sucks.  I am so glad I stopped drinking soda and caffeine about 2 weeks before... Time to get over the caffeine withdrawal really helped me.

Just to clarify... it is the low calorie and low carb combination that shrinks the liver quickly... not the liquids.  Some Docs (Alvarez included) use liquids to prepare us for after the surgery... and it is a bit easier to stay low calorie and low carb when you have to stick to liquids.

You could eat real food and still shrink your liver, but this has the bonus of clearing you out (liquids in... liquids out!) and doing mental prep for post op.

I started my liquid diet a week ago today one week left. It has not been too bad. I would love a
hamburger for some reason. I did't eat alot of them before??? I thought I would be starving--hungry but not starving. My doctor has us do 12 little shakes a day one about every hour. It consists of 4oz skim milk a half of scoop of protien powder.

I am having my WLS Oct 9, 2012.  I started my liquid diet last week.  It was really hard the first couple of days... I had no energy and the protein shake made my throat really dry.  I found that having a variety really helped out.  I got some different low-sodium broths (veggie, french onion, beef, etc) and have been mixing and matching.  I also have a couple of different flavors of protein shakes (I got Costco's 'Premier' brand) and different flavors of sugar-free jello.  Having variety curbs the cravings somewhat and makes it much easier to stick to.  Feel free to hit me up with any questions as I go through this!  Less than a week to go for me until surgery!!!

I had surgery on Tuesday morning, and I was released home this morning; I have to say the pre-diet was the worst part, i was hungry all the time, and miserable; I was eating protein throughout the day (plain chicken breast) to help me get to the next shake.  I was really nervous, that I was eating too much, but it worked out for me.  Surgery went well, so well that I actaully asked the surgeon when she came to see me if she had done the surgery, because I really felt great.  She assured me she had.
I'm on my way... excited, and still nervous, I don't want to screw up.

Good luck!  You can do it.. and once you're past this part.. it's all worth it!

I start mine on 10/18.  Which happens to be the day my mom is coming out from CA to visit for a week, which is kind of a bummer, but I figure it will be good to start getting used to not relying on food to make a special time more special.

I started low carbing today to help and see if I can kick some cravings before then.

Good luck to everyone this month!!!

It is harder when family is around. I used the Unjury brand protein and they seemed to not have aftertaste and not chalky. They even have a soup.  Been on liquids since 10/1 surgery the 15, it has helped that my hubby has been doing liquids with me, when is is around. I know he has had to eat out but since I don't have to see it, it doesn't bother me.  Hoping my surgery will also help him get healthier.
