It is great to hear you thoughts about your experience.  I will have you in my thoughts during your surgery and will keep each other posted.

I wouldn't worry about the band!  One thing I know is that the band works for some, not for others.  Like I said, it did 50% of the job for me.  My weight loss ended right at 18 months so please take that time to make sure you lose the most weight you can.  I don't bash the lap-band, I mean, it does what it is supposed too for most people, but you can cheat it really easy.  I chose the lap-band first because like you said, because it wasn't nearly as complex.  It was the right choice at the time, however sometimes I wish I had just gone back and done the RNY way back then.

The good thing about the band, is even though I only lost during the first 18 months, I maintained that loss for 2 1/2 additional years with no additional gain.  I did fight with the same 5lbs for those 2 1/2 years but I don't call that a gain really.

If you ever have any questions about the band, please ask away.  I can try to be as helpful as possible!  I am not biased towards any procedure and am open to any discussion!  I did have a really hard time with my band the last year and a half but I really have no hard feelings

I am very happy for you.  I read your story and I can understand your frustration during the whole process.

I am going to be banded on 10/02.  I have to lose 100lbs.  I chosed the band because is not as dramatic as the other surgeries.  I am hoping that I do not get the same complications you had.  I am in my 40's done with having children and now I am putting more interest in myself.

I will continue reading your postings and hope that everything goes well with your surgery.

Happy trails:)

Congratulations!  I can have an idea on how do you feel right now.  My surgery is on Oct 2nd.  Did they put you on a pre-op diet?

Topic: RE: Finally! October 1st!
Hey Suzanne....your wait is finally over.....however, I am wondering why you had to wait so long....my OHIP approval and surgery date only took a little over 3 months from start to finish.  Approval from OHIP was dated June 27th and my surgery date is October 2nd.  I am having the RNY maybe you are having a different procedure that they are not so quick to approve.

Anyway; out of curiosity; where are you having the surgery done?  I am in Kanata (suburb of Ottawa) and am heading to Utica NY for my surgery.  I acutally found another woman on this website who is also from here and has her surgery with the same Dr on the same day as me...how co-incidental is that?  We are meeting up for coffee and to compare notes on Sunday.

Anyway; I wish you all the best.......I am soooo anxious for my surgery to start my new life.  3 weeks from day will be my new 'birth' day.

All the very best to you!
