I am in "get ready mode" and not focusing on the actualy surgery. I have spent the last three years deciding to have WLS and it seems once I made the firm decision WLS was my only option to get this weight off . . . January 2009 . . . . . things have just fallen into place quite nicely. I waivered between LapBand and Gastic Bypass. After much internal debate, I have gone with the Laproscopic Gastric Bypass.
I am having my pre-op Doc appointment next Wednesday and figure I will get the info about the pre-surgery diet. I have been trying all kinds of different protien(s) shakes to find the best tasting . . . so I think I am good to go in that area.
I'll be watching for your progress posts!

Aren't you excited? Which procedure are you having? Do you have to do the protien shakes for 2 weeks before your surgery?

This was a totally surprise. Just about three weeks ago when I talked to the insurance company they gave me the impression that I needed more time with the NUT. More time as in until December. But come to find out my Doc's office submitted (38 pages) and on Monday, 09/14 I received a call indicating I had been approved for surgery. At that time on the phone with the Doc's office they said come on in for the pre-op appointment on Wed. 09/23 and how would the date of October 13th be for a surgery date?
What a blessing in my life. The timing is better now than waiting until December.

Drink more H2O? -----Since I have increased my water of the last several months I have been dropping weight more steadily; nothing big, but always in the right direction.

I have my upper gi appointment sept 29th, see my surgeon again on the 22nd and already had meetings with nutritionist and had a sleep study done over a month ago and have a cpap machine, my dr's wanted me using the cpap for a month before surgery if I had sleep apnea (and of course I did). Funny reading things here and how everyone is different in what the dr's want. I am having mine done at Salem in MA. I am not looking forward to the liquid diet, have a feeling it will be tougher than I realize but would love it if I am pleasantly surprized and it is easy!

I too am super nervous! I go tomorrow for upper gi, blood work and see my surgeon. Next week I meet with the sleep apnea dr. on Thursday (need to have sleep test done before surgery) and then meet with nutritionist on the following Wednesday for one week pre-op meet.
I tghink I will be starting the liquid diet the same day as you! Need to do two weeks in advance.
Where are you having yours done? I will be in Borgess in Kazoo.

Looks like 10/5 is it... I'm nervous and a bit scared. My youngest (19) is spending a lot of time with me and I know that he is worried and that makes me feel like crap. He wants this for me and was actually really mad when I have considered backing out but still, I'm a mom. A parent never wants to be the cause of any worries for their kids.
I'm having an open RNY and I wish they didn't say that I'd be spending time in ICU. It's just added to my level of anxiety...

Glad to hear I am not the only one nervous and stressed. My date is oct 7th. When do you start the liquid diet?

I have a surgery date scheduled for Oct 7 2009 too. I've been doing well up to this point with diet and exercise I have already lost 21 pounds but I am feeling very nervous in general and unsure about how the liquid diet will go pre-surgery. Start my liquid diet on Sept 22, how about you?
