Thanks Patty!
I am counting on the "getting sick" is the thing that helps me too in resisting the smells & desire to indulge.

I also was thinking today that I am going to menu plan for me, cook for me and then add the necessary carbs for the growing kids & hubby.

Best of luck on surgery . .  see ya on the Losers Bench

My date is the 20th.  I think we will all benefit from staying in touch.  I plan on taking my lap top to the hospital and posting ASAP.  See you all on the other side.  Keep in touch and keep posting.

I just want to congratulate you for hanging in there.  Writing it down is your best plan, if you know there are a lot of carbs then maintain portion control.  I have not yet had my surgery, it is next week, but wanted to offer you moral support.  You CAN DO this.  My son is about 7 weeks out and he does most of the cooking for his family and he says just knowing he would get sick stops him.  Although he does says that the smells and desire are still there but the idea of being sick overcomes them both.  Good Luck.

Topic: RE: How many October 5th'ers?

October 5 is a lucky day for WLS!  I had my procedure three years ago on October 5th.  I lost 120 pounds (100% of my EBW) and have kept it off!  This surgery was a blessing and a miracle for me.

Hang in there during the initial tough time and do exactly what your doc tells you to.  Get ready for one of the most exciting rides of your life! Best of luck to each of you.

Good luck.  I'll be thinking of you.  I remember sitting for hours going through the before and after pictures the weeks before my surgery.  I really stayed focus on the board for October.  Keep yourself busy.  I am so grateful for the surgery and I wanted to post to you guys to show you that it can stay positive.  You have your ups and downs.  You hear over and over its just a tool and that is what it is.  I hope to think my pouch is a Craftsman and I hope it's guaranteed for Life.

Good Luck

I am also scheduled for RNY on the 27th. I used to drink a ton of diet coke and I just told myself no more. Now coffee, that's another story altogether. I have cut down to one small cup a day.  I start my pre-op diet tomorrow so I guess I'm done drinking coffee.

Hello all can't believe I've made it this far.  One big piece of advice I have is make sure you have a recliner available for recovery.  Very difficult to get in and out of a flat bed so you will have a much easier time recovery wise once you're home if you can ease in and out of a recliner it has made the world of difference for me.  Came home without one and was miserable for 3 days until went out and bought one.  2nd piece of advice is use all the help offered to you.  As the days go by you do feel much better and slowly regain your energy levels and the pain recedes (I am a self confessed pain wimp!) but having folks there to help out in the beginning is essential, you never realize how much you need that thing in your hand, on the table et****il it falls to the floor and you can't bend over to pick it up!  I am happy I have done this for me just want to remind everyone that it is exciting and life changing but it is also a struggle in the beginning just recovering from surgery.
