11 More Days & Feeling like a Failure
I have 11 more days til WLS and am failing miserable. My post op diet guidelines were: "no or low carb not to exceed 30g per day." Tuesday was the first day and I tried to wing it without writing anything down during the day and when I saw what I thought was healthy at the end of the day I was at 100g of carbs. (The previous 3 months I have been on a Low Carb per Nut of 165 Carbs / day). So . . . . Wednesday I had a class from 10a to 3p and ate a breakfast with 9g carbs, not bad. Took a protein shake, lots of water & snacks that consisted of celery w/ 1T of peanut butter & an apple. Felt very hungry after class so came home and had 4 oz of lean ham with a piece of LF cheese. Still not too bad . . . . but then it was a fast dinner nite and that's where I hit too many carbs with rice & chicken stir fry.
Ugghhhhhh!! So last nite I sat down after the kids were in bed and planned my meals for today. I still haven't figured out dinner but Breakfast, Lunch & 3pm snack total up to 19g carb.
Any suggestions from those that had to feed / cook for a family and still maintain our diet restrictions? I am the chief cook & bottle washer in our family and am scared to death that I am not going to be able to do this. Any suggestions?
Thank you in advance for your suggestions & recommendations. I am still coming to the Losers Bench so don't give my spot away (hehehe).

I just want to congratulate you for hanging in there. Writing it down is your best plan, if you know there are a lot of carbs then maintain portion control. I have not yet had my surgery, it is next week, but wanted to offer you moral support. You CAN DO this. My son is about 7 weeks out and he does most of the cooking for his family and he says just knowing he would get sick stops him. Although he does says that the smells and desire are still there but the idea of being sick overcomes them both. Good Luck.
Thanks Patty!
I am counting on the "getting sick" is the thing that helps me too in resisting the smells & desire to indulge.
I also was thinking today that I am going to menu plan for me, cook for me and then add the necessary carbs for the growing kids & hubby.
Best of luck on surgery . . see ya on the Losers Bench

You can do it! It's just going to take a lot of planning and thinking ahead.
I bought a cookbook yesterday called "Hungry Girl's 200 under 200" (www.hungry-girl.com) . The recipes seem very family friendly which as mom of 3 I was looking for.
Google "The World According to Eggface" and you'll find some GREAT recipes.
http://www.chefdave.org/default/index.html is Chef' Dave's website...he's a bariatric chef. He has some recipes on his site and some really good books as well.
Good Luck!!! You are not a failure. The simple fact that you are here and that you are trying proves that!

Oh Karen!! Consider this a great big hugh hug from me!!!
You have given me such valuable links!! I just quickly went to Chef Dave's site and I am diffently going to spend a lot of time on this site. - - - - Last nite I tried to trick the family with mashed califlower using ligth sour cream (4g carbs), salt, pepper, dash of garlic powder with chives. My son (10 yo) said I didn't whip the potatoes very well cause it had little tiny chunks. He also asked what kind of potatoes they were because it tasted differently. I had to be honest & tell him the truth and he still ate it anyway.
I have been working so hard since Tuesday and have been able to get my daily carbs to 48, 45, 67, 53, and 48. I am going to call the Dr.'s office on Monday & find out if this is going to be close enough. And my Protien has been up there where it needs to be starting with Tuesday: 98, 156, 97, 76, 135 (required to have at least 100g of Protien daily).
Appreciate your support & the wonderful references. Thank you Thank you & Thank you
