I had my RNY on 10/15.  I am 8 weeks out.  My surgery went well.  My surgeon inserts a gastric-tube in case of nausea.  The g-tube allows me to pour liquids into my old stomach to prevent dehydration.  I had this g-tube for 6 weeks.  The first several weeks was a bit difficult.  I cried alot.  I didnt have remorse, I was just tired and hurt some and didnt feel like my old self.  Due to the g-tube I had to sleep in a recliner for 10 days instead of in my bed. I was on short term disability for 6 weeks and stayed at home until the g-tube was removed.  I didnt start feeling like my old self until week 4.  I have lost 34 pounds and I am very excited.  I start exercising today both on my Bowflex and treadmill so I hope to see my weight drop faster.  I have no sensitivities to food but some things sit better than others. Other than that life is normal.  If you would like to track my journey I am on YouTube under zipchick.  Be sure to subscribe!

Hello everyone,

It's been a while since I've posted.  I just wanted to say that I am doing great!  I had my surgery Oct 8th 2008.  On the day of surgery I weighed 338 lbs and today I am 297 lbs.... I've lost 41 lbs and I have so much energy.

I am exercising 4-5 days a week and spending more time with my daughter since she loves to go walking with her mommy!!  This was the best decision I ever made.

I appreciate all of the support I've gotten along the way from the folks here on OH.

Thank you.

Hello all October folks,
I had my Realize lap band surgery in Tijuana on October 17, 2008. I have to admit the first 5 days I did nothing but cry and regret what I had done. I felt like I was starving, my stomach felt like I had been run into head first by a rhino, and I could do nothing but sleep.  I did not have a bad time with the hospital I chose but I sure would not recommend anyone else to go there either. I was promised a few things that were not done. After my surgery was finished I honestly felt that all they wanted was to shuffle me out their door to the hotel so they could get someone else in the bed. I had NO post op check up or consultation. I stayed overnight at the hotel and was driven to the airport the next morning by the doctors son.  I was given a folder with suggested meals and what week to eat what but soon found it was really different than a lot of banders. Then I got back to Texas and still had no doctor for post op checkups or just in case anything weny wrong. I had been given a card with a number on it and was supposed  to go to a website and enter this number to find the nearest doctor but the pin would not work, so I called Dr, Carlos again and he told me the pin was no longer any good because the company was not recognizing lapband patients having the band done in Mexico so here i was again trying to find a doctor that would take me as a patient when the time of need came.  Well that was not an easy task. 4 out of 5 I called flat told me they would not take a patient that had the lap band done in Mexico but I finally found one that will and he is only 15 minutes away from my home. My progress has been ok I guess. I have now lost 25# but I have trouble knowing when to stop eating. I eat too fast and am just learning to chew, chew, chew. I finally have an appointment for my first fill and I sure hope it helps because I still have a hard time with getting full and knowing it. Anyway I do have high hopes after reading all of your posts that I will for sure tell a difference after my first fill. I am so happy for all the positive comments from all of you. It gives me a boost.

Hello all

I had my RNY surgery on 10/21 and felt like someone went after my stomach with a baseball bat - but it did heal and things are much better.

I have pretty much done what I'm supposed to "by the book" except for pureeing all my food for 8 weeks.. but I make sure I chew chew chew everything to mush.  I haven't had a problem with any foods yet.  I haven't tried any heavy meats, but have had chicken, fish and sashimi (yum)!  The sashimi was 3 weeks out and I wasn't sure what that was going to do - but it sat very well.  Haven't tried much in the carbs, a few noodles mixed in with food (mac/cheese, beef stroganoff) and it has done well.

I have lost about 24 lbs or so since surgery and close to 30 since before.  I'm feeling much better and wish to heck I could get a transfer addition of exercise!  LOL - I haven't been doing that at all and know it would make a world of difference.

I'd been experiencing a bit of discomfort myself from iabout 3 weeks out and sporadically since.   My surgeon explained that before pulling out the laproscopic tools, on some of the incisions (the big one in the middle, for me) they put a stich or two to close it.  Those generally take 6-8 weeks for your body to absorb.   So while they're healing, it's normal to discomfort while moving about.

Hope this helps.

Just wanted to say congratulations on your surgery!  Welcome to the forum!

I am sure your abdominal discomfort has subsided a little.  I would think it is normal,  you did have surgery.  Hang in there, there are good things to come!

I too, am having no difficulties eating.  I chew-chew-chew and eat smaller amounts, but so far (thank goodness) I have been able to eat any food.  I laugh, because I asked my Doctor too "are you sure you did the surgery?"  I am having my first fill on the 11th and am looking forward to it.  I am anxious to see if I will have food restrictions after a fill.

Has anyone had a 1st fill yet?  Did you experience any food restrictions?

Hi, all!  I'm new to the October forum -- have usually just read the main RNY forum, but I decided to check in here.

I had my RNY on 10/21/08 and must admit that the recovery has been easy.  I even teasingly told my doctor that I didn't think he had even done surgery!

I've lost 28 pounds (2 of those before surgery).  I'm eating whatever I want (but smaller amounts).  (My doctor does not have strict rules).  I try to walk about 60" on a treadmill at a gym a few times a week.

I "miss" food a bit, as in I wish I could eat more, but I also know that this is a choice I made, and I had almost 50 years of eating whatever I wanted.  So I've been okay with the changes.
