Topic: Last weekend before surgery ... relaxing, shopping, and "last meals"
Hello everyone. I get my sleeve on Friday 10/10, so this is the last weekend before my surgery.
Today my wife and I got massages. We had taken a trip last year to a resort on the Chesapeake Bay last fall and spent a weekend relaxing, including time in their spa. We wanted to go back this year, but since that will at least be postponed, we went to a local day spa and got a couples massage. Very relaxing and well deserved as I think we've both been anxious about the surgery.
We went to a local place that makes good burgers for lunch and we're going to Ruth Chris's Steakhouse for dinner. I've been going well with my pre-op diet, but wanted to have a day of 'last meals". I've lost over 20 lbs so far, so I'm not feeling too guilty a few good meals before the surgery.
I have been considering buying a new pair of shoes and was going to wait and ask for them for Christmas, but I basically used the surgery as an excuse to buy them early. They're a super comfy pair of Merrell Jungle Mocs. even though I had some sandals, I said I needed some comfy shoes that I could slip on for in the hospital and soon after the surgery.
I did my grocery shopping. I already had my protein powders, chewable calcium and chewable multivitamins, gas-X strips, and some things in-case constipation strikes. I got plenty of low cal fluids: Crystal Light, Sugar-free Kool-Aid, and Decaf iced tea that I add Splenda too. For my 1st 3 days, I got 100% juices to dilute, and some low-fat broths. For days 3-14, I have things to make my protein shakes with: sugar-free puddings, sugar-free syrups (chocolate, caramel, coffee), sugar-free carnation instant breakfast, low-fat cream soups (some will need to be strained), and sugar-free popcicles. I have a few things to start the pureed/soft stage on day 15, but I actually have my transition nutrition class before that, so I didn't get too much.
Tomorrow, I'll likely do some laundry and watch some football. I have pre-op appointments on Wednesday and then surgery on Friday. I am working Monday-Thursday and also have an exam for one of my MBA classes this weeks, so I'll be busy leading up to the big day.

Topic: RE: Liquid Protein diet starting 9/30/08 ... anyone else?
This is day 5 and I have stuck to the diet. I have only had 4 of the 5 shakes a day. I have had a couple of pickles each day and yesterday and today, instead of putting the 1/4 cup fruit in my shakes I have eatten half an apple.
I have lost 10 pounds but was hoping for more, considering how hungry I am.
We can't have any other food other than the 1/4 cup fruit with each shake or pickles. Dr. Baker has been know to close up back up and not do the surgery if he finds food in your stomach. Also I have to fax in my weight and if you don't lose the weight, you don't have surgery. That is the only two things that are keeping me going. I am thinking this is going to be the hardest part of the surgery!

Topic: RE: Anyone else have surgery next week
I am also going in on October 7th. I wish you all luck and a safe journey also. I haven't packed or cleaned or anything yet because I've had to work so much overtime, it's unreal! I am still working all weekend and even Monday! I work for myself so I really don't have a choice. If I don't work, I don't get paid and they'll be quite of bit of time of not working for recovery and surgery. I am overwhelmed right now because I have more things to do than I could get done before surgery so I am frazzled but I kind of feel like this was meant to be so that I don't have time to get too nervous, scared, etc. Believe or not, I'm liking looking forward to going into the hospital for a "break"! LOL!
Good Luck everyone! See you on the loser's bench!!!!!!!

Getting nervous -- the usual thoughts of what if this doesn't work?

Topic: RE: 1 Week Out....I feel the same
Give it time. I left the hospital 9 lbs heavier than I went in. And i think my stomach is bigger now. But I have no appetite and I'm living on full liquids so I will loose weight. And I have the gas thing that doesn't feel good. When will that go away?

Topic: RE: My Insurance was denied....now what?
They should not have a problem with someone that is going to self pay. I would appel first and see if the insurance company changes there mind
Topic: My Insurance was denied....now what?
I have really been hoping to have WLS, but they have denied my insurance. I am planning to appeal, but can anyone suggest a surgeon who will take a self pay?
