Topic: RE: My Insurance was denied....now what?
I looked at your page if your weight is only 210 you may not be approved. that is not very heavy.. you have to be able to lose 100 lbs and still be in a healthy weight for ur height. Most people lose 85-100lbs in the 1st year if you lost that you would be too skinny. we are to lose more after that. People do die from malnutrition of this surgery.. Some people can't stop losing and drs have to help them gain.
as far as self pay It's not worth killing yourself if you don't fit the requirement with the surgery.. now a lot that I have read says 80lbs overweight with some other major medical problem that taking the weight off will help

I was denied my first time too. Check with your insurance and find out why. YOu have to meet the guidlines. Some people have tried for this surgery and didn't weigh enough. That would kill you. As long as you are 100 lbs or more overweight there is a lot of avenes to take to get approved. If you have any other medical condition that has to be noted your dr has to put the paperwork the right way. I was told by my insurance rep that they are not dr.s have it put in laymen terms and explaine y this surgery will benifit you and help you to live healthier. Insurance companies pay for this surgery because it is cheaper for them if we are thin in healthy than if we remain heavy. In the long run it costs them way more money. I would definetly check your insurance and dr. YOu may need another dr to try. My 1st dr didn't have much experience with this so she didn't put the paperwork the way the insurance wanted. I went to the surgeon and they got forms for my dr to fill out and submitted the paperwork the second time and it flew through. My drs nurse is on 1st name basis with the insurance company she has done this so much. she is good at finding loop holes. thats who you need on your side.. don't wast your appeals make sure everything is thorough. It took me so many ups and downs to get this approved. I am only the 2nd person under my hubbys insurance that has tried for this and both of us were approved after the paperwork was put the way the insurance wanted it. My 1 insurance didn't have any requirements but my other required a 6 month weight loss that is a good idea anyway. It gives us time to make sure we want this and that it's right for us. Our lives will drastically change or we kill ourselves..
I told my hubby if I die while the insurance company is taking their sweet time sue them.
Also you can get a lawyer if needed to fight it..
I woiuld check into changing insurance unless you have $30000 laying around u want to spend. and don't do one of those mexico trips for 12000 thats not good.
Make sure you are a canadate..
Good luck I know what you feel like my denial was just because it wasn't worded right. don't quit thats what the insurance companies want us to do. they want to make sure we are dedicated so we succede they are gambleing on us to stick to the life change..

Topic: RE: Sticking to Pre-op diet - yikes!
I am on the same diet as you. I have been on it for a week now. I have some cravings but I know I will have those foods again.. I just have to wait a while and eat a really really small amount of it.. Believe it or not we are the lucky ones a lot of drs won't let the people eat at all just liquids... One person has to say on just liquids for a month prior. I kindof feel guilty cause I get to eat food.
I eat a ton of ice chips to get me through... It helps a lot. I also eat really really slow trying to get my body ready for surgery. actually retrain my brain. The weight I have lost in the past week has me pumped. I can feel my body getting smaller every day. I haven't and won't weigh myself I was a prisoner of the scale before and will not be again. I know this time the weight is going off forever. I figure the more I lose now the easier my recovery will be..
Pray for God to help u. You don't want the dr to try to get this surgery done and find out he can't once he gets in there because you didn't follow his rules for 14 days. Don't let your body be cut up and not get this lifechange and find out that some cravings cost you these scars and the dr can't help. I will pray for you. but believe it or not we are lucky we get chicken. My shakes are starting to taste like milk shakes to me. I get the strawberry high protien shakes form walmart they are equate and as long as they are very cold I really am looking forward to the.
If you find you are actually feeling hungry and it's not ur brain messing with u and u can't do this call your dietition. I called mine yesterday and she helped me substiute some things to change my diet up a little. I'ts not that long when you think about it. Another thing shut that tv off at commerical time. I swear they have subliminal messages for food. I don't want to watch skinny people pig out on cheesecake. What the heck.
You will feel better I know I do. day 3 was really hard. I was sick. the other thing stay on here and talk to people they will help you..... sleep if you can. drink a lot... go for a walk... read a book forget about food. it's hard but u can do it. drink a lot it will help u feel full

My surgery is Oct. 15th, I'm on liquids, mainly protein shakes, but have "cheated" with chicken noodle soup which I love. I feel terribly guilty with every bite of noodles. But, gosh, I'm starving! I feel like I am being tortured. Christi
Topic: RE: Dr Viglianco
I'm having surgery with Dr. Viglianco's partner, Dr. Caruana. I really like the people at their office. My surgery date is October 8th, two months after seeing Dr. C. All the best.

Topic: OMG they want to move my surgery sooner!!
I was scheduled for Nov 3rd but got a call today telling me I was approved and do I want to have surgery on Wednesday. 2 days from now..lol I am freaking out. I am a single mom so of course I can't do anything on such short notice. I think I will shoot for Oct 13th. Now I need to get ready. Any suggestions on what I need to prepare? What do I need when I return home?
Topic: RE: Sticking to Pre-op diet - yikes!
I've been on the pre-op diet for a week now - one more week to go - and doing pretty good. I am totally Opti-Fast and clear liquids however. The best thing that has helped is that my husband is doing the liquid diet with me, so I have an accountability partner in him. Since we have no children at home, we also gave away all foods that we could.
You might try removing the tempting things as much as possible and get someone who can hold you accountable. It's not been the easiest thing I've ever done, but the thought of having to put off my surgery has been a strong deterrent whenever I am tempted.
I've read that some people drink a big glass of water, or go for a walk, or find something else active to do to take your mind off things.
Think about the end results! Hang in there - you can make it!

I was in your shoes last week. It will be over before you know it. Get all the sleep you can. I didn't get much sleep in the hospital.
