Topic: RE: Surgery in 3 days
My surgery is on Thursday. I am very nervous, but I am trying to keep myself busy and trying to keep my mind on getting things ready for myself for after surgery.
My surgeon said to take Benadryl if I can't sleep, but I would call your surgeon first to see if that is okay with them.

10/29. It's funny, last year at this time, I was stashing candy in my drawer at work so that I didn't give all of it to the kids! And this year - no candy at all. Actually, I can up until the day before. I had heard so many people talk about the pre-surgery liquid diet, so I called and asked my surgeon. The nurse asks me - "If you could stick to a liquid diet, would you need me?" So, each doctor handles that a little differently. I have tried cutting back on things on my own. Some things I am waiting until the last minute to give up!!!!

I understand completely! I haven't let myself show it on the outside, but I have been a ball of nervous energy! You will be fine. It's hard not to be nervous, but you have to keep in your mind that everything will be fine! Find something else to focus on for the next couple of days.
I know, I know easier said than done! But it's worth a try!
Keep us posted!

With so many strains of the flu, one injection can only offer minimal protection. I'm an RN doing Community Health and should get one. But each year about this time I choose not to have it. Luckily, I have not gotten ill. My RNY was 4/30/08 and I have been cold/flu-free. Do you have an internist/GP? Perhaps ask them. Good luck and be healthy.

HI,
I haven't had my surgery yet, am scheduled for late December.
Not getting a flu shot just sounds funny from here. I get flu like symptoms or colds every 7-10 days. Couldn't live without it.

cheers

Topic: RE: Surgery in 6 days and a COLD!!!
Did they give you and incentive spirometer to practive with. Use it. You don't want the infection to go to your lungs. Or if you don't have one the cough and deep breathe ASAP.
I would call the surgeon. If you are still sick on surgery day then they will figure it out.

Topic: NEED SOME ADVICE
Hi Everyone,
I want you guys to help me out for a minute. My work is giving out free flu shots to employees, I wanted to know if you think I should get one and has anyone else ever gotten one? Since my surgery in July of 2004 I have been sick only twice and it lasted maybe 2 days the most. My surgeon had told me way back when that we would be more susceptible to getting sick since surgery but I think he was wrong. Like I said I have only had a cold 2 times since surgery and it wasn't even a full-blown cold. It was gone within 2 days, So what do you think? Should I be safe rather then sorry???? Thanks for your opinions, I can always count on you guys!!!!!

I got a nasty cold the week before my surgery as well! I was overseas couldn't go to a doctor until I got home... they prescribed me some Levaquin ASAP, and it knocked out whatever I had in just a couple of days. I was still able to go through with surgery without rescheduling.
Good luck!
Good luck!
