I have only lost 3 # (according the the surgeon's office) since surgery (8.5# according to my brand new digital scale, purchased a couple of weeks before surgery).
I had to do a 2 week pre-op liquid diet. With permission from my endocronologist, and a promise to CLOSELY monitor my sugar. I stopped taking all my diabetes meds. My fasting blood sugars were about 135-150.
But this is the good part, DRUM ROLL PLEASE ... My glucose is NORMAL for the first time in many years. It hasn't been over 100 this entire week, regardless of whether I am fasting, drinking the two-week post-op liquid protein, or today being on pureed proteins (including cheese, cottage cheese & things higher in sugars). My high blood pressure meds were decreased by 75%, I am not taking several other meds (including one high cholestrol med).
Tomorrow I see my PCP and hope to be able to get off of some of the other meds I am still currently taking.
I feel so blessed. Praise God!!
God Bless,
~Kathi

As for me...I had lapband done on 10/23, the first week of recovery was tough, however; the second week was much better, I was able to move around and started feeling like myself. I'm on the third week now, and things are going well. I'm healing much better, eating everything but steak and carbs. I weighed myself 2 weeks after surgery and Iost 12 pounds.
How about everyone else? Please share your stories, successes and struggles.
I had my surgery on October 7th as well. How are you doing? I start solid foods tomorrow and am very glad but also scared. I am afraid of gaining weight. I have cheated a couple times and ended up throwing up. Hope everything is well.
Also, what kind of excersizing can I start with 450 on operation date.
I am here just about 2 weeks post op (RNY) and kinda frustrated. I started out on operation day at 333#. 6 days after surgery I had lost 25# and was extremely happy with my progress. But between day 6 post op and today, about 7 days, I haven't lost anything. I am stuck at 308#.
I would figure being on a liquid diet and only taking in about 400 calories a day I would be loosing, even without the surgery.
I have an appointment on Thursday for follow up and hope they have some information for me. I was just curious if anyone else had this issue.
Hope you all are doing well!
Martin :)
No, I haven't been hungry - but have fought head hunger a little. My stomach hasn't growled at all - just trying to overcome bad habits like wanting something to munch on when I watch TV at night. I'm not really hungry - just my head thinking I am!
I've done really well - 21 pounds gone, 1 size down in my clothes. My surgeon and nutritionist really have me focusing on protein, which is probably another reason why I'm not hungry. I've also surprised myself with my exercise. I never thought I could be consistent, but it appears that I can be. 30 minutes every day.
Here's another thing that's helped keep me focused - have you been to The Daily Plate.com? It keeps track of everything you eat during the day, and my eyes were really opened! It's been my best tool this week since I joined.
Feel free to write anytime. I enjoy comparing notes with someone who had surgery about the same time I did. I'm not competitive, but it helps to see what others are going through. Good luck to you!
I just had my VSG on October 28, 2008. How has it gone for you? One thing I've found surprising is that I am really hungry and didn't expect to be. Have you experienced hunger? Thanks! Linda
