Topic: RE: Liquid Diet. Surgery Oct. 24
My surgery is right after yours, on the 25th. I've been on the liquid for the same. Get hungry a lot. I still trying to find that protein drink that works for me. Akins in low in calories but it is God awful. The other ones like boost is to high in calories but there are good. I'm going to GNC today to see if I can find something better.

Good to you on Tuesday. I'm on the 25th. Fun time to have this surgery huh, right before the holidays. I know it will be challenging but good.
Topic: RE: new to this..someone please help!
Hey Jenny, I'm Brenda. My surgery is the 25th and I feel the same. Ready for it but scare of the unknown. I try to keep in mind that the Doctors do these surgery everyday and I believe they can tell who will have problems before hand. I also view it that I ask God for help and this is how he choose to give it to me. In any case the fear and excitment is normal. Just try to think of the positive things. Like that tiny black dress you always wanted to wear.

You should get a shampoo with BIotin and take Biotin supplements. I understand it very common, but can be mitigated with extra protein + Biotin. I have my surgery Tuesday and I'm getting Biotin today.
Topic: RE: Who's Scheduled 10/12/07 Dr. Shina?
Lisa I live in Southern Indiana and had the lap band. My Dr was Rodriquez. I didnt let Dr. Shina do mine cause he and I use to work together while he was in Med School and thought friends don't operate on friends. lol Dr. Shina is a very good Dr.and he did my best friends bypass and she is doing great. Good luck to you I have been post op for 5 weeks and have dropped 36 lbs.
Topic: RE: new to this..someone please help!
Jenny I am a lap band patient and I am 5 weeks post op and have lost a total of 36 lbs. I am too looking for supportive friends to talk to. I will tell you I was a very very high risk patient and had to stay in ICU 3 days but I had no complications little pain first 48 hours and was totally off pain medication after that. I have had no post op problems and doing well. Your first week after surgery will be the worst days cause you will want to eat and can only have liquids and I had no support that first week. But everyone here on this board is very supportive it seems so never think you are alone. Good luck with your surgery and just think positive :-)
Topic: RE: Liquid diet pre-surgery INFORMATION
Thank you Angel & Teresa!! I have been eating everything in sight lately and really need to get on the liquids. My dr. doesn't require it, but my med insurance required that I lose 25 lbs prior to surgery, which I did, but I've gained 10 back. I'm so scared that they're going to say - nope, no surgery for you. But even as scared as I am of that, I can't stop eating! I feel like something's taken over my brain and tummy! Okay, so right at this moment, I think that I can do this. You two are making it through and I just need to be strong enough to do it, too. I've worked so hard for 6 months to get to the final approval of my med insurance, that I can't believe I'm blowing it with my date two weeks from today!! I also can't believe I'm rambling on like this - thanks for the liquid diets and I'm starting now - have only had liquids so far today anyway. Do really well at work - but once I'm home, nothing's safe!

Make sure you take your vitamins and get your protein in. My doctor says,"PROTEIN, PROTEIN, PROTEIN!!!" I read that Biotin helps hair, nails, and skin. I would also do some research and ask your nurse prac. or doctor before taking any thing. The pills are large. I have to cut them.
My surgery was on 9/13/07(lap. gastric bypass) . I have started taking them because I have read and I ask my nurse pract. she said," around 5 to 6 months after surgery your hair will thin or come out, but this should not last". I hope this helps!
Good luck and I wish you well.
