Topic: Post Op Problems
Not sure if this is the right place to post. I was banded 10/26 and having quite a few discomforts and wanted to know if anyone else has felt the same. I had terrible gas from day 1 and found it very hard to walk immediately following. Hospital staff wasnt the greatest b/c they're only solution was to walk. I walked 12 laps around wing still with no relief. Gas wasnt relieved until I went home from hosp the next day and took gas x. felt much better ;-) Now the issues im having is lots of drainage from wounds which doc said is normal b/c he had to cut out a pocket of fat. im still quite gassy and my major discomfort is that i CANNOT burp post op. Its weird b/c i feel like i have to but then i get a lump in my throat that seems to develop into indigestion. having lots of indigestion and heart burn post op as well. also, i have gained 2 pounds since surgery. im so frustrated. im still hungry as hell, and was moved to week 3 diet after only 4 days post op because of my hunger. can someone please share their experiences with me? thanks

annette, so you are going through this too. i think i got it figured out. i had to do something, so i cook one egg, soft scrambled, no butter or anything, eat that very slow. it was the first thing i have eaten since my surgery. it made me go to the bathroom.......lol and i feel alot better........i am not going to continue to do that but i needed to see what i could do since i had not gone to the bathroom, i knew i needed too, since my surgery. hugs for you and your reply.

I was also getting that... but I think that I found that I was drinking my water, protein, and everything too quickly...So I got little plastic dixie cups(3 oz) , put the water from my water bottle in there and just drank that and then waited 30 minutes...refilled again, I am using the every 30 minute thing for now..this seemed to help my left side thing(also the gurgling that was going on)

I just can't seem to get enough of the Isopure down...I tried it in the jello...and all I got from that was... jiggly isopure....What are bullets? I just can't wait until Wendesday when I can go full liquid...I have plenty more protein options then!!

Topic: RE: Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy October 22, 2007, looking for good stage II meal plan.
Hey Judy, We both had surgery the same day! Mine was RNY. The diet is the same, you can tolerate medications, and the RNY patients can't. I too considered the Vertical Sleeve, but due to some other medical issues, the RNY was the best for me. There are several ladies at my support group that have had the Vertical Sleeve, and that is how I know the diet is basically the same. I use Isopure, it is a clear protein. I like the passion fruit and blue raspberry, but they have many flavors. I keep a mug with me constantly and sip it all day long. I have no problems getting in the required 50-75 grams per day. Congrats on your surgery! The last time I weighed it was at 11 days post op and at that time I was down 14.6 pounds. I will be starting my excercise/walking program on Tuesday. I was instructed by my surgeon to wait until 2 weeks post op. Keep in touch! Blessings, Angel

Topic: RE: How to start?
Hey Catherine, Yes, I had to get a referral from my primary care doctor first, but he process was very fast! My first appointment with my surgeon was on July 24th, and I was approved for surgery on Aug 8th! I had to get a few tests done prior to my paperwork being submitted to the insurance company, but it was still lightening fast! I have Tri-Care Prime. I did over a year of research as well, in my opinion the RNY is the best most effective LONG term surgery. Let me know if you have other questions. My surgery was on October 22nd, the last time I weighed, it was at 11 days post-op and I have lost 14.6 pounds. I have not started my excercise or walking yet, my surgeon requested I wait until two weeks post op. Blessings, Angel
