Topic: Dialated Esophagus
Well, I had surgery Oct 1st. and have only lost 10-12 lbs. In Nov I had 3 adjustments and still felt hungry, was able to eat too much. Got discouraged in Dec and ate whatever I wanted, including fudge, etc. Gained 2 lbs. Got 4th adjustment Jan 4th. Also had a ?barrium xray and everything looked good as far as band and placement. Dr said my esophagus is dialated. I don't feel any different. Can eat too much and still get soooooooo hungry. How do you get past this? I'm being told it is "Head Hunger".

Topic: RE: Help I don't want to eat
Hi Janet: I had the same problem initially .... very hard to get motivated to eat ANYTHING. However, I focused on 2 things: I used a timer and made sure I attempted something small every 2 hours - instead of 3 meals a day. I can't do 3 meals a day ... never could. Also - I used the "Nectar" protein drinks ... mixed only with water ... and sipped them slowly to make them last. 3 per day provided the 68 grams of protein I needed, and now 3 months out, I am able to eat small portions of protein every 2 hours and I only drink 1 (or sometimes 2) protein drinks per day to make sure I get the protein amounts. I had trouble with all the fancy "recipes" for the protein drinks, and found instead that keeping it simple was more palatable. (Lemonade flavor "Nectar" w/water only is easy to drink.) Good luck ... and remember .... things change frequently ... you could feel very differently at any time. :)

Congratulations Kevin! I had my RNY on 10/15/07 and weighed in at 288, as of New Year's Eve I was down to 231 for a total of 57 pounds. Still trying to work harder at exercising regularly. Probably would have lost much more if I had been. Heather
