Hey All, My surgery weight was 261 lbs on Oct 16. I am only down 41 lbs. Which is great! But not for a person who has had surgery. So I am mad. I exercise about 5 times a week, get in about 60+ grms of protein, about 50+ oz of water. What the hell is the problem. My doc says that it's "ok", "it will come off", my nut doesn't know too much besides putting me "in the box" with the rest. I keep telling her my situation is different. I don't know what the heck is going on. Iwill admit that I do eat rice or pasta in two meals a week, and I drink cognac twice a month. Not enough not too lose weight!!! Any suggestions because you guys are doing great!!

Hi Rosalind. First of all, I'd say the most important this is to listen to your Dr, he's right! Everyone loses differently, and even though you're losing slower than some of us, you're still losing! Plus, I've always heard the slow losers have an easier time keeping it off! That said, how many calories do you get a day? I've heard some people that get too few and that can tend to stall you. I doubt that a little rice or pasta is going to be a problem, as long as you're getting in enough protein & fluids. My nut says carbs are fine, as long as I eat protein first, veggies second, and carbs only after that if there's room. Oh, one other thing. How often do you eat? I know some docs say only 3 meals a day, but mine says 5 - 6. My nut says every 2 - 3 hours we should eat. That helps to keep sugar levels steady, and will keep your metabolism humming. The real bottom line is: if you're losing, you're doing something right, so just keep the focus on the fact that it's working. Celebrate your successes! Good luck!!!

My nut has me at 74g of protein a day and 80oz of water/fluids, 600-700 calories. I also am supposed to eat have 5-6 times meals a day - 2-3 hours apart, taking 30 minutes to eat meals/snacks, and still taking pencil eraser size bites & chewing thoroughly. The meal plan she has me on is three meals of 2 oz. protein, 1 oz. veggies, 1 oz. carbs (if still hungry after protein & veggies), plus two snacks such as a cheese stick, a hard-boiled egg, a 6-8 oz. protein drink, a 4-6 oz. container of yogurt. I hope that helps.

Hi Rosalind - I'm a slow loser, too. 10/1 surgery weight was 270, almost 6 months later and I've only lost 59 lbs. I eat 5-6 meals a day 2-3 hours apart. My protein averages 80g/day, and calories are 800-1000. I try to stay away from heavy carbs, but do have one serving of potatos (no rice or pasta) a week. I don't think it specifically has much to do with what you are or are not eating... it's just a metabolism thing. I'm trying to find a center to get my resting metabolic rate tested so I know exactly how my body processes energy since all the numbers the nuts and surgeons give you are just averages. It's frustrating, but as long as the scale is moving in the right direction I try to keep optimistic. ((((HUGS))))

Thanks to all that responded to my post. I eat between 4-5 small meals a day. I also have a protein shake or bar on most days along with my vitamins. I assume that it's about 800-1100 calories, but I exercise about 300-400 calories off per day, maybe 5 days a week . My protein shake are about 250-300 calories by themselves (fruit,l/f yogurt, protein powder). I lost 4lbs in the past few days, so I am about 45lbs total since surgery. I guess all of you guys are right. I will continue at the pace of "my body" and see you all at the finish line
