Hey, I'm a newby here....I need some help on food portions
I have a question for anyone out there....when I eat soup I feel like I can eat and eat on this stuff. when I have something like refried beans or anything with a mushy texture I feel like I can eat more than 2 or 3 ounces. My doctor says I should only be eating about 2 to 3 ounces of food 3 times a day. I can eat my 2 ounces of food by it doesn't fill me up where I am full or feel stuffed. I don't feel like I'm eating too much, but know I'm at a plataeu in my weigh loss and need some suggestions on getting it going again. Has anyone else been able to eat more than the 2 to 3 ounces and felt okay? I'm ripping myself apart thinking I'm doing something wrong...I do eat fruits and veggies, chicken, tuna and beans. I'm trying to stay with foods that have some protein in it. Please give me some feedback and let me know what you think!!! I had my RNY on 10/30/07 and I'm down 43 lbs.
Thanks,
Amy
I'm no expert as mine was on Oct. 18. However, I know they said that your pouch will stretch with time. Mine varies depending on the day how much or how little I eat. One this is for sure. If you're eating and not throwing up, your amounts are probably ok. They tell me it's about a half a cup in size. I don't have hunger or cravings. I do know that if I eat too much or too fast I throw up. I think everybody is different. They also tell me that plateaus are going to happen every so many pounds,. I hit one for 2 weeks, and then started losing again. Good luck!
I eat 1/2 cup portion at one time. My doctor says 1/2 to 3/4 cup depending on what you are eating. My doctor allows soup but doesnt want me to use as a mainstay because it does not stick with you, but I do eat split peas or navy bean soup which i make in batches and put in ziploc 1/2 cup containers so I can grab and go. You realy should never feel "full" like you use to just satisfied. I rarely am hungr so I just eat to get my protein. I do rarely eat fruit or vegetables beause I can not get my protein in if I do that. I have stalled twice now and from what I understand it can be from not enough calories. Basically if your goal is 80 protein grams a day I usually end up under 700 calories. Hope this helps.
hi, i'm a newby also. my surgery was oct. 26, 2007. what do you mainly eat every day? i had a really bad case of constipation during christmas, so i'm a little afraid to eat anything but soup. i do try to eat 3 oz. at lunch and dinner. i do yogurt at breakfast. i have lost a total of 43.4lbs. is that good or is that slow?
thanks to all of you for listening!

Hi Judy!! I try to mix things up...I keep track of what foods sit well with me and the ones that don't....I stay away from. With me I can eat tuna fish, chicken, thin ground sirloin, I even done chicken courdon blue (these are smaller that a ping pong ball). I can eat refried beans really well, but I like to have salsa or red sauce on them so they don't seem so dry. I like to eat salad (no dressing) with very small pieces of chicken on it, boiled egg, cheese, peas, and shredded carrots. Don't fell bad about the Christmas constipation, I had that plus when I ate on Christmas Eve I ended up getting sick on a barbque meatball...I only had one and that was it!! Then on Christmas day...I got sick on Turkey believe it on not!!! So I didn't have a great Christmas on the eating side, but being with my family, that was good!! With your weight loss, I think you doing well....if you look at the people around the same time as us....we are staying right in there with them...Keep up the great work and I hope this has helped you....Good Luck!

Hi Amy. I was just looking at different boards and saw your question. I went through the same feeling as you and started freaking out so I asked my doctor why I felt that way. He told me everyones full feeling different and it can take up to a half hour to get that feeling. He also told me that we sometimes mistake a full feeling for hunger pangs. He said we are so used to ignoring our bodies and that we have to learn how to listen and learn what each pain or feeling means. Personally for me I cant do 3 meals a day. I dont feel satisfied. I eat every 2 or 3 hours in smaller portions. It keeps me energized and full throughout the day. I never feel the need to snack or eat bad things because I know I get to have another small meal soon. Tis works great for me. I am now 4.5 months out and weigh 154 for a total loss of 78 lbs. You just need to find what works for you so you can get a nice weight loss pattern going. Good luck and best wishes on your journey!!
