Is anyone else exhausted?

I'm 5 weeks out from Lap RNY. I'm feeling good and am tolerating most foods. I'm getting my 70g + of protein in every day, and usually meet my 64 oz water/fluid goal. I'm walking at least 30 minutes a day, 4-5 days a week. My problem? I'm absolutely exhausted!!! No energy whatsoever, and I feel like I've been hit by a ton of bricks. I get up at a decent time, go for a walk, and then have to take a nap. This afternoon I went shopping and after I was out for about 1-2 hours, I could just feel the exhaustion coming on again. Just curious if anyone else is feeling the same way?

I"m 2 1/2 weeks out from roux en y. Tired? Absolutely, but in the same breath have more energy than I did before surgery. Odd, defintely. Are you taking your B vitamin. My doctor told me that would make a difference. Hope it's better soon!! Keep in touch if you would like to! I know I could use the support as much as anyone. God bless! (cheesy grin...just for YOU!) ~Val

Thanks for the cheesy grin Val! Yes, I am getting my B-Vitamin. There's 125 mcg (2083%) in my multivitamin (Optisource). I hope it's better soon too! Overall my quality of life is great, so I'm not complaining, just hoping the energy comes back soon.

Try adding a vitamin B12 sublingual once a week under your tongue. It reallys helps.

Most people I have spoken to that had the RNY all said that they really weren't back to their 'normal' energy level until 6-8 weeks out. I would give it a couple more weeks and just take breaks when you need them.

I'm glad you asked this question. I was feeling like a wimp. I'm 3 weeks out and have noticed the same thing. I'll feel great and have lots of energy so I'll go out for a couple hours, then it's like I hit a wall and am so exhausted I have to nap. I started pureed foods 3 days ago and haven been having a really hard time getting all my proteins in. I'm getting in 2-3 ounces of food, but that just doesn't add up to much protein. I'm supplementing with protein drinks for snacks, but every time I do things (light house cleaning, walking, etc.) I end up falling asleep shortly after that and it's really cutting into my eating/drinking time to get those proteins in. I'm glad to hear that it should get better in a few weeks. I'll never be able to get through the work week this way and I got back on Monday.

I had my RNY 10/26/07. I've lot 26 pounds so far. I lost most of that during my liquid diet and the first week or two after surgery. This last week has been really slow. I know I need to stop weighting myself everyday, but I still do it. I only lost 2 or 3 pounds the third week. I'm really tired all the time too. I'm not getting enough exercise but after working all day (desk job) I'm just ready to drop in a recliner at the end of the work day. I'm not sick after I eat, but I feel better if I don't eat. I get kind of queasy after eating or drinking. I'm drinking protein shakes and protein bullets so I'm getting my protein in. I'm taking my #$%^&* vitamins too. GOD I hate the vitmins!! I'm not drinking enough water...just can't seem to get it down. I'm looking forward to getting the first year behind me.

I'm a little over 2 months out from lap RNY and I am still totally exhausted. At first, I'm sure it was post-op healing, but it's not getting better. Of course, I haven't been able to eat enough for the past month because I had an ulcer making me nauseated, but I was at least getting in 500 calories with protein bullets and gatorade. I'm also freezing, my hair started falling out week 4, my nails are really brittle, and I can't concentrate worth a crap. They gave me Nexium for the ulcer, so hopefully I'll be able to eat again in a few weeks... but we're still looking into hypothyroid because it's not normal to feel this drained for so long. I get exhausted just washing the dishes or folding the laundry

Just when I started getting my energy back, I got bronchitis, so my energy level went down the tubes again. But, now I'm starting to get back and so is my energy. I'm sorry that you're having such problems! You definitely need to make sure you're getting all of your protein and vitamins in every day. I know it's got to be hard though with the ulcer...ouch. Good idea that your doc is looking into thyroid. You don't really want anything to be wrong with you, but it would be good to find a reason and be able to fix it. Good luck, and let us know how it goes! Deb

I am 2 weeks out today and feel like I have been hit by a mack truck after running a marathon. I have not been able to exercise yet as I'm too tired to do so. Althought I haven't had a good nights rest since surgery I still want to lay down all day. Today is my first day back to work and I cant wait for 3pm to get here just to go home and get into the bed. I can't wash dishes, vaccum the floor, do any of those things. Just the thought of it makes me yarn.
