Home from the Hospital and Stomach Gurgling like crazy
The pain and tiredness might actually be dumping... try a different flavor (I dumped on chocolate but not vanilla), or dilute your shake with more water and see if that helps. Also, temperature counts! Sometimes cold liquids make your esophagus and pouch spasm which hurts and could account for the gurgling.... try it at room temperature or a bit warmer.
How are you doing with water and diluted juice? Can you tolerate those without pain and gurgling?
Thanks for your suggestions -- I'll try them. I could only down 2oz this morning of the protein shake, but lunch went better.
I seem to have the gurgling with water as well and if I drink it too fast, it hurts. My nuts didn't say anything about diluted juice yet, so all I've had is the protein shake and water, and more water.
I really liked the warm broth that I had in the hospital (odd, I know). Anyone know if I can have broth in lieu of some of this water?
If warm works better, by all means, drink as much broth as you can. Anything liquid gets to count as food and toward your daily fluids - including SF popsicles and Jell-O! You might also think about warming up your protein shake. My NUT said diluted juices and decaf tea were OK, so you might want to call your NUT tomorrow to double-check. I found adding vanilla protein to decaf tea makes a nice chai and the protein is easier on my grouchy pouch. Definitely sip the first couple of weeks, in addition to big swallows causing pain the liquid can just fountain back up (productive burps).
Hi Cynthia,
I believe its normal. It lets you know your digestive tract is working again. I haven't really been hungry so I have been sipping too. I mix unflavor protein in just about everything to make sure I am getting enough. When I eat something I try to mimic what was given to me in the hospital. Broth, jello/unflavor yogurt/ shake and tea. That seems to work.
