My date is Oct. 3rd.
I found out yesterday that my surgery date is October 3rd. I am excited and scared at the same time.
I keep hoping I know what I am doing. I have been thinking about this for three years and now it is a reality. I't has been helpful to see all the positive posts. Without them, I think I might chicken out!
Cheryl,
How long have you been contemplating this surgery? My PCP suggested it three years ago. At first i though he was crazy. It seems so drastic. So I thought I might try the Dean Ornish plan. Now get this-- I don't have diabetes --YET, or heart problems. However, All my aunts on my mothers side have it as do some of my cousins. But the insurance wouldn't pay for it because my mother is not diabetic . Her mom died from diabetes. But my mom had stomach ulcers and had to have most of her stomach removed---- after that she lost weight and had been a fanatic about excess surgar.
So instead of a program that might have cost a couple thousand, here I am getting a gastric bypass.
Has your doctor suggested a pre-surgery diet? Mine has not. I have seen where some go on a 10 day liquid diet. I have been wondering if that is necessary or if it is a great benefit. Have you calmed down since you found out when you are scheduled? I was so worked up I had to take a xanax to get to sleep! I just keep thinking how nice it will be to be able to walk as fast as everyone else and shop in
the regular sizes.

Hey Deb,
I have been thinking about surgery for about a year now. When I first went in to the doctors last year I took home all the papers and thought wow this is going to be a piece of cake. Little did I know how difficult it would be. For some reason I just couldnt get everything all in order. They finally sent it to the insurance company back in June. It was denied a bunch of times. Then all of a sudden the beginning of September I got a call with an approval. I hear you I had to pay out of pocket for the dieticians because they will cover gastric bypass but wont cover some appts for the dieticians. So crazy. I was told to go on the liquid diet 2 weeks prior to surgery. I actually started the diet 1 week earlier than that. So I have been on this liquid diet for 10 days now and have lost 19 lbs. I have been trying to research and find out why its necessary. I guess its to get fat off the liver and maybe to lose some weight before the surgery. Thats they only thing I can think of. If that makes any sense. This surgery is on my mind all the time. I cant stop thinking, talking about it. I had my last doctors appt with the doctor the other day. I was so nervous going in ther. He made me feel at ease after I left. So I feel excited now. I just cant wait to get healthy and not be over weight anymore. The other night I laid on the couch with my 5 yr old son and he said to me Mommy you are really so fat. I was heartbroken but then i realized this is why Im doing this. It was actually a motivation to keep doing good on the liquid diet. How long are you going to be in the hospital? I know it varies from diff doctors. I believe Im going to be in for 4 days.
Take care
Cheryl
Congratulations and Good Luck Debbie . My date is October 1st and I'm feeling the same way, one minute excited and the next scared of what's ahead. This site has become my new addiction, the support and info on here is great and what has gotten me through to this point.
See you on the other side
