Perm, before or after surgery??

I am new to this site and found you by surfing the web. Anyway, I have a surgery date of 10/16/07 and I am in a wedding the Sat before that. I wanted to get a perm now but I had two different salons tell me oppsite things. One said don't do it before surgery and one said don't do it after. Does anyone know what the real answer is?

My sister-in-law was a hairdresser. She said that the anesthesia will keep a perm from taking AFTER surgery. So if you get it before you should be okay.
