Isn't it interesting how we all take something alittle different?? I take: 2 Flintstone Chewable MultiVitamins (I asked my surgeon at my 1 year if I still needed to do the chewable and she said yes because my body absorbs them better) 1 Chewable Vit. C Chewable Caltrate (I like this the best, I call it my candy for the day!) Potassium (prescription from my family MD) 1 Fish Oil (my bad cholesterol is good, but good cholesterol acts retarded) B12 Dots Prilosec (my surgeon requires this) Then every 5-6 weeks I get my B12 shot -- my surgeon also requires this -- says my body absorbs it better than the pill, but since B12 is my new best friend she said I could take the pills every day, too.... My iron is low, but I tried taking a prescription from my family MD and they made me sick....really sick....so he told me to stop and in a few months he will test my labs again.... Holly

Topic: October card exchange
To all my October sisters, First of all I want to give a big huge thanks to all the ones that were in the October card exchange for the beautiful cards that I have received. Each one was special and I loved each one. I was part of the exchange, but have not sent out my cards yet. For this I am deeply sorry. I have been very busy the past weeks helping take care of my mom. She is very ill and has to be helped with everything. She lives with my 2 sisters and they have been over whelmed with taking care of her. She can no longer do anything for herself except feed herself. She is in renal failure and now we found out she needs a pace maker, which she is not going to have done. She doesn't want any treatment. The top part of her heart is not working, causing her to be very dizzy when she walks. She fell a few weeks back because she blacked out. We are not letting her get up for anything. We almost didn't get her up off the floor. Mom is over 400 pounds, so you can see how difficult it is to take care of her. Well, I have been going there to help care for her during the moring while my sister is at work, then I go to work 2nd shift. I am starting to feel drained from going so much. Sometimes I stay there so I don't travel so much between work and home. That is why I haven't sent my cards out yet. I have been so busy, I just haven't had time to get to them yet. I haven't been on the computer in forever. I have been so worred about her and my sisters, I didn't even celebrate my one year re-birthday. But, thanks to you all, the cards helped me get through this difficult time. Harder times are coming I am sure. I just wanted you all to know what was going on. You all feel like part of my family and wanted to share this with you. One thing is certain. I have realized how much of a difference this surgery has made in my life. I look at my mom suffering because of her weight and what it has taken away from her. It is too late for her now, but to the ones that have been fortunate enough to have it, it is a blessing. I have been given another chance at a healthier life and for that I am grateful. We all are that have had WLS. Well, thanks for letting me share this with you all. I will get my cards out soon I hope. Bear with me. Just wanted you all to know that I haven't forgot you. This board means so much to me. I wouldn't have gotten this far without your love and support and encouragement. I need it now more than ever. Congrats to all for making it one year!! Love and hugs, Sherry

I tend to get VERY bored VERY quickly. My new attempt at no brainer lunches (for both my husband and I) has been to cook a pot of soup every weekend. It usually contains what ever "base" (stock or broth) I have on hand and whatever veggies are fresh at the local farmers market that week. I toss in some meat (which ever goes with the broth I am using) and have a huge pot of soup (low carb) that will last the both of us all week. I've also experimented with some more complex soups like low fat cheese soup mixed with chili etc. But mostly it's a veggie and meat soup. Some other breakfast ideas: (things that I enjoy) low fat cheese and an apple no sugar added Carnation Instant Breakfast Fiber One cereal w/ skim milk or no sugar added yogurt and my favorite.... 1/2 of a "peanutbutter and jelly sandwich) made with low carb / whole grain bread, reduced fat peanutbutter and no sugar added jam. Some lunch ideas I enjoy: lunch meat / cheese "roll ups" chili tuna or chicken salad soup (most of the time) lower carb "Smart Ones" or "Lean Cuisines" when I want a treat Dinner is what ever I make for my husband and I or leftovers...usually nothing beyond a grilled or roasted meat and veggie.

Donna, I see you do alot of chicken. Look for chicken recipes. One of my standbys's is chicken parmegian (?sp). I sautee chicken breast in a little olive oil with whatever seasonings you like....salt pepper garlic Herb chicken blend. Sautee til browned. Meanwhile I simmer a spaghetti type sauce, tomatoe sauce, garlic, basil, oregano, tyme, parsley. Put the breasts in a baking dish, cover with sauce. Bake at 350 for about 45 min, til fall apart tender. Just before serving, put a thin slice of mazarella over the top of each breast. YUM! A quick favorite, slice a whole wheat tortilla in half. On one half slice cooked chicken breast thinly. I use already marinaded chicken breast from the meat market, comes in a variety of flavors, so always have a little something different. Add thin slices of tomatoe over the chicken. Grate some cheese on top. Whatever kind you like. Put second half of tortilla over the top. Grill on the George Foreman til crispy, about 10 min or less. You can do it on the stove top to, in a pan, no need for oil. Just brown each side. Careful when turning so you dont dump out the ingredients. At least once a week I make a pizza type meal. Use thin pita bread, put whatever jarred pizza sauce you like on top. Sometimes I just use the sauce I made for the chicken parmegian. Spread out the sauce. Slice cooked chicken breast over that. Add thinly sliced tomatoe. Grate whatever cheese you like on top. Toast in the oven at 400 for like 10 min, until browned, warmed and bubbly. The pit bread gets real crispy. I like this better than regular pizza. You can use whatever veggies you like on top. Whatever meat strikes your fancy. The possibilities are endless. Daily I have my favorite snack, or can be a meal. Low carb vanilla yogurt. 1/2 scoop flax seed powder (good omega 3's, fiber and some protein to boot), about 5 pecan halves broken up, add whatever fruit you like, strawberries, berries, apple, banana etc. Sprinkle with SF granola. Mix and eat. I found turkey breasts at the store, individually frozen like chicken ones. Im going to try them like the chicken parmegian. I eat lots of fish, but I will spare you on those! LOL With the weather turning cooler, get that crockpot in gear. Roast, pork roast. Chili, white chicken chili etc. Use leftover roast as a veggie soup. Just shred, add the broth, add frozen mixed veggies, or ahtever fesh or frozen veggies you like. I have been trying lots of different salad recipes. Im sick of plain ol' slaad these days. Allrecipes.com. Epicurious.com The more you look at recpie sites, the more you find. I always keep things going with new recipes. My favorite beakfast is one omlette style egg, on top of one slice whole grain bread toasted. Sliced tomatoe with a slice of cheese on top. Good luck.....I could sit here posting recipes all day! LOL Lauri 12 months postop, down 225 (total 240) current 180.

Topic: RE: Vitamins
Hey Teresa!! I've changed brands several times - most recently due to my move to VA. Can't find the same things here that I was buying in TX at HEB (TX grocery store). Oh well. So far, my labs have all been good. Will get my latest results on Thursday....as long as those are good, I'm going to be a happy girl. Crazy part, the lab was drawn almost a month ago - this is my first chance to get in with my doc. Since having the lab drawn, I've started taking iron because I felt tired a lot and was bruising really easily.... Things are slowly getting better. Here's a list of what I take - minus the brands because, like i said, those keep changing... Multi-vitamin - 1 per day Iron - 1 per day Calcium w/Vitamin D - 2 a day for a total of 1000 mg Vitamin C (when I take my Calcium for better absorption) - 2 per day Magnesium (because I noticed in Fitday that I wasn't getting enough in food and multivitamin.) - 1 per day Selenium (same reason as the magnesium) - 1 per day B-1 (because of reports I've read on our needs following WLS and my B-complex had ZERO B1 in it!!!!) - 1 per day B-complex liquid (with LOTS of b-12) - once per day Oh....I take vitamins all thru out my day. I take my synthroid first thing when I get up in the AM. Then I have my calcium and vitamin C about 4 hours later. I put my liquid B complex into my protein shake and with the last sips, I take the magnesium, selenium and B-1. It takes me forever to drink my protein shakes so by the time I take the vitamins with it, there's hardly any in my pouch still so I'm HOPING I'm not washing them on thru. However, they all dissolve very quickly, so I think I'm absorbing them. I take my multivitamin after lunch. I take the iron in the afternoon when I have snack time with the kids after school. And, then I take my last calcium and Vitamin C about an hour or two after dinner. Since I'm a SAHM, it's fairly easy for me to do this. If running errands gets in the way of my vitamin regime, I either take them with me or I just do it later than "normal." Hope that helps!!! Susan

Hey Donna!! Well, I won't mention seafood since you don't like it..... But I love shrimp and tuna salad and eat them both at least once a week. I am eating pretty much anything and everything I want these days. I limit carbs - if I have a sandwich, it's either half a sandwich or an open face sandwich. I try to get in some fruits and veggies as I can. I cook for the family and eat what they do. My mantra is protein first and then complex carbs, then bread if I'm not full...and usually I am at that point. Although I've been making yeast biscuits that are to die for and I had one last night and another tonight. MUCH better than before surgery when I would've had 4-5 each night!!! Anyway, I'm working on "everything in moderation" now with my eating. I still do a protein shake every day to make sure I'm getting in enough protein. I know my doctor would rather I get it all from food, but when I try to do that, all I am able to eat is protein and I miss all my veggies. Since I LIKE veggies, this is not really an option for me. Now that the temps are cooling off, I'm using my crockpot like crazy making soups, chili, roast w/veggies, you name it!! Most of the recipes aren't that difficult. Send me your e-mail addy and I'll try to get some of them to you. They make fairly large amounts though, so you'd have to either cut them in half or freeze part of it if you don't want to eat them all week long. Have a great weekend!!! Hope you are able to figure out some new/different things to eat!!! Susan
