What Are You Eating????
Molly, what a great question!
I've often wondered the same thing. I am certainly eating MUCH more that I was - but I'm still loosing so I'm not overly concerned about it - but it sure would be nice to know I'm "normal" so to speak compared to other Octoberites....
On a typical day....
Breakfast: either 1 piece of "carb style" multigrain toast w/ low fat peanut butter and sf rasberry preserves, or 3/4 cup of Fiber One with skim milk or sugar free carnation instant breakfast. On Saturdays we sometimes go out for breakfast..if we do I'll have one egg and order a side of ham and nibble on that as well.
Snack: cheese, or some portion controled "salty snack" usually around 10am...I'm bad about this. I sooo crave the carbs and salt mid-morning.
Lunch: typically a frozen "lean cuisine" type meal - I try to stick with ones that contain more protein in the entree and little or no rice or potatoes (some have just meat and veggies - I usually opt for those). Sometime for a change I will have 1/2 cup of tuna salad and some raw veggies or a side green salad. If I am having a hard time fighing the "pizza" craving (one of my weaknesses) I will have a green salad and 1/2 of a frozen lean cuisine pizza. (usually about once a month).
Snack: Either some sugar free pudding with a teaspoon of low fat peanutbutter mixed in, or a 100 calorie bag of fat free microwave pop-corn.
Dinner: I can usually eat about a cup now of whatever I have made for my husband. I have found that I am cooking more normal foods now. This past week we have been eating a recipie I saw on the Rachael Ray show...Buffalo Chicken Pot Pie....it has a cornbread (with blue cheese) mixed in topping. I 1/2ed the topping recipie (to make it thinner) and still pick it off and eat just the filling. We finished that last night - so tonight I will be cooking again - ground turkey, blackbeans and veggies..with an enchilada type sauce over a mix of brown rice and bulgar wheat.
We usually eat late (around 7pm or so...if not later if I'm at the gym) - so..no evening snack!
Molly,
My menu doesn't change much from day to day. It may be boring to some, but suits me fine.
B - 1/2 cup FF cottage cheese and fresh fruit
L - 3 oz meat, 1/2 cup veggie
D - 3 oz meat, 1/2 cup veggie
S - 1/2 apple 2 tbsp peanut butter
The meats are beef, chicken or pork.
Fruits are peaches, nectarines, apples, pineapple, occasionally watermellon.
Veggies are cauliflower, green beans, broccoli or peas.
My labs have been perfect and I drink tons of liquids. I started at 320 pounds, now 135 pounds. Last week my Nut said it is time to begin maintenance. The only changes is she said I may now add brown rice. I don't care for rice so won't add any to my day.
It is interesting to see what others are eating.

I have no set menu or anything. I eat what I am hungry for. I don't eat as many carbs as I did before surgery. I have only had pasta for dinner a handful of times in the past year and rarely make sandwiches, but I crave them once in a while and indulge. We had sloppy joes the other night and I used a light bun and didn't have seconds. Actually, I ended up throwing it up because I was too full. Still have trouble stopping once in a while and think I can fit in that last few bites.
My day usually consists of...
Protein shake for breakfast with 8oz skim milk, 4 frozen "milk" ice cubes (an add'l 4 oz of milk) a scoop of Whey protein powder, a TBSP of SF French Vanilla Creamer and 1/4 cup of super strong decaf coffee. I bought some Light whole grain bread today to have peanut butter toast tomorrow and maybe do my shake later in the day for a snack.
Lunch is usually 3-4 oz of some sort of meat (chicken, fish, beef occasionally) and maybe a bite or two of whatever side dish I made for the kids. Tonight it was rice, but have only had that twice since surgery.
Dinner (since I work midnight shift, this is lunch) I might have shrimp ****tail and a few Reduced Fat Ritz Crackers with cheese spread on them, or a salad with chicken and cheese and reduced fat dressing. Or some sort of leftovers.
For snacks I have soy crisps, soy nuts, peanuts, sugar free pudding, SF ice cream occassionally, I made some Pumpkin Fluff with SF pudding, canned pumpkin, skim milk and light cool whip and pumpkin pie spice. YUMMO!!! Sometimes I might have some 100 calorie popcorn or other 100 calorie snack or some fruit.
I try to eat "normal", just limit my carbs and don't eat as much. I take in about 1000-1200 calories a day. I'm not really losing anymore, but am only 5 pounds from my goal, so I am ok with maintaining. I finally came to that decision last week after busting my butt on the 5 day pouch test and gaining back a couple of pounds after I started eating again. It was worth a try and I did keep of 2.5 of the pounds I lost, so it wasn't a total bust. Hee Hee.
Can't wait to hear what others are eating.
Hugs,
Tabby
Hi Molly, I have the same two breakfast's every morning. Home- 1 slice sprouted grain toast. I make an open face sandwich with one egg, sliced tomaote, and cheese. 1/2 cucumber. Work- 1 slice sprouted grain toast, made open face sandwich style with a few slices of chicken or turkey lunchmeat. 1/2 cucmber, carrot sticks, few cherry tomatoes.
Snack, dont always have a snack, but if I do its always the same. !/2 container low carb yogurt, with small scoop flax seed powder, sliced strawberries or other berry, about 5 pecan halves broken up, sprinkle of granola. Piece of fruit. Sometimes its a morning snack, other times its an afternoon snack.
Lunch is whatever leftovers I have. Meat and veggie. Salad with diced chicken breast on top. I always add fresh cucumber, carrot sticks, cherry tomatoe to nearly every meal. Helps fill me up after my protein. I have been adding a little carbs lately. Been working out alot, and need the energy.
Dinner meat and veggie, with a small portion of a carb. Fruit desert. Sometimes I add a small side salad if im extra hungry.

Hmm What do I eat!!! I keep reading that if you aren't eating enough you won't lose. It is so hard to eat though.
I ususally have a protein shake for breakfast- small yogurt, dab of milk, scoop of protein powder.
Lunch- soup or something leftover if I cooked. Usually no more than 1/2 cup of what ever.
Dinner- some type of protein (cheese, nuts) with salad. I will have some vege chips with guacamole occassionally for some crunh.
I may have a handful of mixed nuts as a snack- or cheese. Sometimes I will have peanut butter on a cracker.
Dear Molly:
I agree! Great Question! Some times, I think I eat too much, but sometimes it seems like I don't eat enough. I have read that you should eat no less than 200 calories less than your RBMR (Resting Base Metabolic Rate....or something like that) in order to lose. If you eat less, your body is in starvation mode and will hold on to everything.
Typically, I have a protein shake made with water first thing in the morning with my vitamins on the way to work. Sometimes water too.
After I get to work, I have 2-3 mugs of caffiene free Cafe au Lait made with 2% milk. (1/2 c. milk for each mug----this is SUPPOSED to be made with whole milk or half & half, so the 2% is my substitute, skim milk WILL NOT work for this).
Lunch is usally left overs from the night before or lunch meat/cheese roll ups. I try to have cucumbers or another veggie at lunch.
I have another shake mid afternoon.
Dinner is whatever the rest of the family is eating meat and veggie, sometimes a couple of bites of the side.
Before bed, I have another shake with my night time vitamins.
Water all in between.
I have been wondering if the shake in the morning is breakfast, or if I should add some sprouted toast with peanut butter or cheese as breakfast.
What are YOU eating?
