burgers and other sandwiches
I sometimes cook myself a burger...I know the quality of the meat and what's in it and I top it with cheese and tomato slices and onion and mushrooms...but sometimes I want one when I am out. The only things I ever order when out are fish or chicken. Sometimes I really crave burgers! Not from fast food, but from decent places.
Anyone ever order burgers or other sandwiches out? What's that like for you?

I can't eat the pre-made burgers. They are just way too tough for me. My pouch will retaliate. (sp?) I do make my own burgers from ground beef, lamb, and pork. Like the meatloaf mix you can get at the store. I then know what I add into them. I add some onions, seasoning, etc.
When I go out and get a burger, it's usually at places like TGI Friday's, Ruby Tuesdays, places like that. NOT FAST FOOD YUCK!!!!! I usually just eat the burger and maybe some of the tomatoe, no buns for me

I have a really hard time with red meat. Unless it is crumbled. why?? I have no idea. I dont order a burger when I go out cuz i know it will be to hard on me and my pouch. I have ordered a Jr. Cheeseburger one time at Wendys. Ate it without the top bun. No problems that one time.. then tried it again like 2 months later.. So didnt work for me.. So in 11 months, I have had 1 burger.. and a bite of one like 4 times. I just not rather deal with the problems it makes.
I have a real hard time with bread, all kinds, unless it is toasted and then I still can have only like 2 bites. Now the weirdest thing is..... I can eat a hot dog bun and it doesnt bother me at all. Often I have a half of a hot dog bun with Pnut butter and sugar free jelly for lunch. Thats about as close as I get to a sandwich. I eat lunch meat and cheese just no bread..
I so miss my Big Macs.. I Loved, loved loved them before surgery.. How horrible is that?? I would eat at least 3 a week.. I use to be a HUGE fast food queen.. So glad this surgery has helped me changed my ways. Helped my family too.

Red meat makes me ill also. For some reason my body has a hard time digesting it. Honestly, the consistency of the ground meat of the burger when chewed grosses me out since now we need to "Chew" our food instead of inhaling it. Now, you come across the grissle (sp?) and that alone makes me ill.
When I have no other choice but to stop through a drive thru I order a grilled chicken salad. It's still not a great choice but better than a greasy burger! Or, I go to subway and get a tuna wrap. Their tuna is yummy!

I don't eat burgers often, but do indulge once in a while. I do OK with them. Pre-Surgery, I LOVED the Bonzai burger at Red Robin. The last time I went I ordered it as a lettuce wrap. It was great. I was able to eat about 1/2 of it. I am also OK with eating a McDonalds cheese burger.
I can do sandwiches now, too. I have had sloppy joes, roast beef sandwiches. Now I eat 1 sandwich, rather than 2 and tear off a good bit of the bun. I feel guilty about eating too much bread. Not really what the doctor ordered. Hee Hee.
I agree with Tabby - Bonzai Burger and Red Robin was YUM pre surgery.
The Boy was craving Red Robin on Saturday..our first trip there post-surgery. There where plenty of healthier choices (chicken / fish etc) on the menu, but I got brave and ordered the Bonzai Burger. I removed the bun and used a knife and fork. It went down easily, but my stomach turned at the sight of all the grease on it. (usually the bun hides it all and you don't even know it's there). So I ate very little of it. But the few bites I had where VERY tasty!
I have found it is the quality of the meat that decides wethr I can eat it or not. Grissly or fatty forget it. The texture is important to me now. I will gag if it feels funny. I can do the six dolar burger patty at Carl's Jr. They are charbroiled, hence less fat. They are also a good quality of meat. Tried the Angus patty at McDonald's YUCKY! Full of gristle! Also they charge for the whole burger, where as Carl's Jr charges $2 for the patty, cheese is .20 more. I get it on a plate and eat it with a knife and fork. I like it even better than Red Robins which I have had a lil taste of off one of my kids plates.
I don't eat burgers often, but do indulge once in a while. I do OK with them. I don't usually eat a bun or bread -- just the meat and cheese. I can only eat about 1/2 of one. Pre-Surgery, I LOVED McDonalds Big Macs. I could eat 2 of them at one time....(I am so embarrassed to admit that!)....The night the PFA was issued to my son, we went to McDonalds and I ordered a Big Mac...I only ate half of it and it made me sick....yep, I
I can do sandwiches. I have had sloppy joes, roast beef sandwiches. Now I eat 1 sandwich, rather than 2 or 3! I don't eat much bread period. It fills me up too quickly! We had sloppy joes at my m-i-l's yesterday during the Steeler game and I just put some of the meat on a plate and ate it with a fork!
