How many carbs?
Hi ya!!
I don't really "track carbs" but I do watch the type of carbs I eat. I have never eaten the Weight Control Instant Oatmeal but I don't see the harm in it if you are not loading up for the rest of the day on so many other processed carbs.
Oh and just for info (per fitday)... my *average* daily intake of carbs is usually under 40 net carbs. Some days higher ( depending on the treat ) some days lower. Every day is a bit different. It never gets to out of control as I usually don't have much "room" left for to many high carb foods after getting all my protein in for the day.
My 2 cents of course lol.
Good luck to you!!

When I go some place I take my protein shake (2 carbs) , protein bars (avg 15g I do NOT like to use protein bars on a daily basis - personal reasons), LOTS of jerky (3 carbs per serving if I buy it and not make it 0 carbs if I make it) this is my number one staple when traveling. Baby Carrots ( 5 carbs per serving about 6 carrots ). There are tons of veggies I take with me that are low carb and travel well. Bell peppers, Green onions, romaine lettuce ( yes just break it off, dip in some good for you dressing and wa la snack).
As for how I keep it less the 40 well I don't TRY that just happens to be my "average". I don't eat a lot of processed anything so its not hard to keep it down.
For example here is todays food:
Breakfast : 2 eggs 1 carb
Snack: 6 baby carrots 7 carbs ( 5 net carbs )
Lunch : 1 Roma tomato with 3 oz Mozzarella cheese and basil 5 carbs ( 4 net carbs )
Afternoon Snack: Pro Complex Protein Shake w/ water 2 carbs
Dinner: Chicken Thighs with probably a cup of Brussels sprouts 8 carbs ( 5 net carbs )
Evening Snack (optional ): 1/2 cup rice crackers 14 carbs
IF I eat the snack in the evening this works out to 38 carbs or 32 net carbs, 88 grams of protein and 892 calories with only 18 grams of sat fat ...
Now yesterday it was higher as I had a small piece of apple pie (16 carbs) instead of the rice crackers and I had twice the carrots (10 carbs) and they were just yummy! So my total was 45 carbs ...

Marie, the weight control oatmeal was recommended by my nut. It has a higher protein count than regular oatmeal, so keeps you full longer. I loved it preop, but havent tried it postop. Just hasn't sounded good since surgery. Now, maybe this winter I will want some again, who knows. I go in streaks with things Im wanting to eat. Eat the same over and over, then move on to find something different. Preop I used to put fresh bberries in it....YUM!
I dont do fit day....or rather only occassionally to make sure Im staying on track. I dont count carbs, but usually only have a small amount of white carbs. Most of my carbs comes from fruit and veggies. I do have a slice of sprouted whole grain bread with breakfast on gym days. I think it gives me more energy. I have added a few more carbs to my diet lately, but always I make a conscious effort to monitor it closely. I was and am a carbaholic. They were always my downfall. I did a low carb diet for about 1 1/2 years. Lost well over 100 pounds, but the first time any carb went into my mouth...UGH it piled right back on. I remember telling the psych doctor preop, I know I can do this....I can stick to a plan......I can eat low carb. It was alot about portion size for me also. Now I have my tool to limit that!

I'm not a carb counter anymore. I was at the beginning, but I have been working on changing my focus to an overall healthy eating lifestyle whi*****ludes whole grains.
I just don't like the taste of the WC Oatmeal. I've never been a fan of oatmeal in general. I will confess that my breakfast every day is 3/4 of a cup of Fiber One cereal w/ skim milk. I guess that is close to the same thing. I usually follow it with a high protein snack a few hours later and it keeps me truckin' all morning.
Most other carbs that I eat are also whole grain. Crackers, bulgar wheat, whole grain pasta etc. It's featured more as a condiment on the plate (for me - my husband gets a larger portion) and only eaten w/ good lean protein and produce.
I don't count mine either, only because the things I do eat with carbs in it are things I eat all the time, so I already know what's in them. I know that chicken and fish don't have virtualy any carbs and also I eat green veggies (good carbs, very very low carbs). I guess to estimate, I'm probably doing under 50 grams a day. Around 1000-1200 calories. Something like that.
