I'm Stepping Up to Beat Diabetes!
Dear Friends,
As I previously posted on some of these boards, on October 20, 2007, I am
joining the American Diabetes Association's first ever Step Up to Fight
Diabetes walk/climb in Philadelphia. Step Up is a ten mile walk through
the city that includes a thousand stairs.
Due to the generosity of my Step Up supporters, I have well exceeded my original $1000 fundraising goal and am working toward a new goal of $2500.
This is the first time I have ever done anything like this. I was diagnosed with diabetes three years ago and struggled with it daily until my WLS last year. I have not had a symptom since October 31, 2006!
Millions of others have not been so fortunate. My big brother, John, lost his life to diabetes in 1995, at age 41. I am walking for him. I am walking because I can and because I am so grateful for my own good health. I am walking to save lives.
Current stats show that about 25% of Americans are diabetic or pre-diabetic and while incidences of death from other major diseases are decreasing annually, death from diabetes is increasing. Diabetes is now an epidemic. And diabetes has no mercy; it takes you piece by piece.
Money raised by this event will benefit the American Diabetes Association in their research and advocacy efforts, as well as services provided to diabetics and their families.
If you wish to support this important endeavor and help the millions of Americans who are struggling with diabetes, please contact me at [email protected] for info on donating by check, or visit my website to contribute online.

Thanks very much!

Hi there
My hubby has had diabetes for years too. He has had many ups and downs over the year. Thank you for walking to raise money to help find a cure for this problem.
I am sorry I can't donate to help but I do my part here in Canada, as our family is very active with the Canadian Diabetic Association.
Good luck
Tara
Lisa,
I am very proud of you for taking a stand. I have been trying to get going in the same thing only as far as MS goes. I admire your dedication...it is awesome.
I wish I could help but it is just not the right time for us. I will be with you in thoughts and prayers as you take and succeed at this challenge.
Happy hugs,
Melissa
