want to share this...

I came across something I posted to OH last year and wanted to share it: "I am scheduled for WLS on October 26, 2006. So happy. Nervous. Not scared yet, but expect I will be. I keep dreaming of what it will be like to have normal blood sugars again. To breathe well again. To walk for ages again. To ride a bike again. To wake up without pain. To do all the things I once took for granted, but never will again...Looking forward to running along an empty beach on a cold day." It was good I found this. Striking and moving for me. My surgery was actually rescheduled to October 31, 2006. And I didn't get scared until I was on the elevator being led to the pre-op room...then, it hit me all at once! Blood sugars were normal almost immediately. I'm breathing well, walking so much, and loving it. Haven't been on a bike yet, but will as soon as I've recovered from my operation next week. Waking up without pain...I'll admit, I'd forgotten that I used to wake up in pain every day. Getting out of bed was such a struggle. I'd forgotten. I'm going to print this out and carry it with me...put a copy on the bathroom mirror. And carry a copy on my 10 mile diabetes walk this fall too. And I'll be sure to plan a visit to the beach this winter. Lisa

LISA, ISN'T IT AMAZING WHAT A DIFFERENCE ALMOST NINE MONTHS MAKES IN OUR LIVES. WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT THIS TIME LAST YEAR WE'D ALL BE SAYING HOW WONDERFUL WE FEEL. NOT TO MENTION ALL THE ACTIVITIES WE'RE NOW PARTICIPATING IN. I WAS ALSO ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE WHO WASN'T SCARED ABOUT THE OPERATION TILL I WAS IN HOLDING, THEN IT HITS YOU SMACK ON FOR FOREHEAD, "DO I REALLY WANT TO GO THROUGH W/ THIS?" NO TURNING BACK AND I FOR ONE AM GLAD AND THANK GOD EVERYDAY THAT I HAD THIS SURGERY. LIKE YOU, I'M BREATHING MUCH EASIER THESE DAYS, NO MORE ASTHMA MEDICATION, NO MORE BLOOD PRESSURE MEDICATION, NO MORE HAVING TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF WHAT EVER I WAS DOING TO CATCH MY BREATH, NO MORE ACHING BACK, KNEES, FEET. IT'S REALLY FANTASTIC. IF YOU PLAN TO VISIT THE BEACH THIS WINTER ,COME ON DOWN TO THE CAROLINA BEACHES. I'M 10min FROM THE NORTH/SOUTH CAROLINA BEACHES AND 30min FROM MYRTLE BEACH. IT VERY RARELY GETS REALLY COLD DOWN HERE. THE WORST IT GETS IS MAYBE A WEEK OF 30 DEGREE WEATHER THEN BACK TO NORMAL WINTER WEATHER, 40's TO 50's. DONNA, SFY

I hear ya on the getting scared as they were taking you in part. Same thing happened to me. Fortunately, that was about the time the "feel good" meds kicked in and I didn't care anymore where we were headed. Isn't it nice to see how far you've come? Congrats!! Susan
