Introducing Myself
Good Morning Everyone
I'm fairly new to this board, and am so happy I found all my new friends here
I had my RNY Gastric Bypass done on Oct 2, 2006 at Geary Community Hospital in Junction City. I went through the live-lite program. My experience with them was great!! A wonderful group of people!
Anyway, I am 42 years old, happily married to a wonderful, very supportive man! Approx. 7 years ago I managed to lose 226 lbs taking Phentermine, however, after I went off of it, I re gained every pound plus about another 100 lbs on top of it. At my highest weight I was 492lbs. I was pretty much housebound. I had to use my powerchair to even get around in the house. Needless to say, was totally miserable. I have an 18 year old son, that is the light of my life!! In fact he is engaged to a wonderful girl. I love her just as if she was my own already!!! They are planning a June 21, 2008 wedding. Gee.....I am even getting anxious to think about shopping for a dress . And I hate shopping for clothes. Of course, I wish they would have waited on this next part, however, what is done is done. I am looking forward to becoming a grandma in December. My 1st grandbaby is due on Dec 27th. I put my "order" in for a girl, however, as I'm sure you all know, I am going to love and spoil rotten my grandchild, no matter what sex it is!!! I also have my 25 year old nephew living with us. His mother (my sister) passed away a couple years ago, and since he has some mental issues, I was not going to sit back and allow the family to have him institutionalized!!! He has been a wonderful help to me through my WLS journey. I love him just as if he is my own!!
I have 1 dog....Dixie,,,,,spoiled rotten, and a big "mamma's girl". I also have 1 "Grand-Dog" Emily, and 1 Grand-Kitty...."Little Bit".
I manage a mobile home park, and if anyone would have told me 3 or 4 years ago that I would be able to do the things I am doing now, I would have told them they were crazy. My life has changed drastically in the last 8 months. I'd have this surgery again in a heartbeat!! I am actually living.....not wishing for the Lord to take me home, as I was doing just 8 months ago.
I spent a lot of time in and out of the hospital with different co-morbities of my weight. Finally, a wonderful local doctor told me that he understood my weight issues, and that he felt that gastric bypass was my last option. My weight was plain and simply killing me. He told me that if I didn't have the surgery I would not be around in 4 years. He had even thought I was going to have to have a trach with a permanent respirator because of my weight. Needless to say, I got busy researching WLS!!
I was very blessed with an insurance company that didn't give me any trouble being approved. I had went to a couple different seminars with other places, and finally found Live-Lite. I worried about the distance....4 1/2 hour trip one way, but am now so happy that I made the decision I did!!
Well, I don't want to bore you all, but wanted to say HI...and let you all know a little more about myself. I'm looking forward to getting to know all my new friends better, and I want you all to know that I will be keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers!!
Have a GREAT Day!!
Hugs
Theresa
Welcome to this wonderful board Theresa!! It is nice to have you here! This is a great and wonderful group of people here who listen and offer advice!!
I had my surgery in Pittsburgh on October 10, 2006. It is one of the best decisions I have ever made for myself!! Since last April when I started this journey I have lost 120 pounds!! Since surgery, I have lost 91 lbs! I am doing great and feeling wonderful!
I have two children. My daughter, Rachel, is 17 and will be a senior in high school this Fall. My son Daniel, is 19 and he and his girlfriend Jen are getting married on August 4! I know the feeling of being excited about buying a new dress! They have a daughter, Raven, who is 2 years old and she is the joy of our lives!!
Again, welcome to the board and I hope to see you posting often!!!
Hugs,
Holly
Hi Theresa, and welcome!
I had my Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy on October 5, 2006. So far I have lost 96 pounds. I am about 20 pounds from my personal goal, but only six pounds from my physician's goal for me! This surgery has been a gift and a blessing. I seem to be the only one here with a VSG, but I have found this board to be an inspiration.
I have two sons - Brian, 22, at Texas A&M and Mike, 17, a senior in hisgh school next year. My health, attitude and outlook on life have all improved dramatically.
Hope to hear more from you soon.
HEY THERESA,
AND WELCOME TO THE BEST BOARD ON OH. YOU'LL MEET A WONDERFUL GROUP OF CARING, SUPPORTIVE PEOPLE HERE.
I HAD MY SURGERY ON OCT 13th (FRIDAY) AT THE MEDICAL UNIVERCITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND WONDER WHY I DIDN'T HAVE IT SOONER.
I STARTED OUT AT 313# AND JUST NOW MADE IT TO ONEDERLAND, I'M AT 198# AND FEEL FANSTASTIC. I WAS A SEVERE ASTHMATIC AND VERY HYPERTENSION. I NOW TAKE NO MEDICATION FOR EITHER PROBLEM AND CAN JUST ABOUT RUN DOWN THE HALLS OF THE HOSPITAL I WORK AT.
I'M SINGLE, 51yo AND TRANSPLANTED FROM NEW YORK TO SOUTHEASTERN NORTH CAROLINA IN 1995. BEST MOVE I EVER MADE. HAVE HAD A COUPLE OF HEART ACHES LATELY, MOTHER PASSED AWAY LAST MONTH AND MY "BABY" MR. MOOGEY BUES, A MAINECOON CAT, HAD MAJOR THORASIC SURGERY TWO WEEKS AGO. IF I HADN'T HAD THE SURGERY WHEN I DID I'D PROBABLY BE IN THE HOSP W/ AN ASTHMA ATTACK RIGHT NOW DUE TO NERVES AND THE HEAT DOWN HERE, 100 DEGREES.
WELL, I'LL STOP RUNNING ON FOR NOW. AGAIN, WELCOME TO A WONDERRUL BOARD.

Theresa,
Howdy! Welcome to the Oct board. I am so glad that you found us. This is a great board and everyone is very very very nice!!!! Just can not say enough about what all these gals mean to me... I have had a rough year (well since surgery) (not related to surgery at all though) and they have been there for me ALL THE WAY!!!!!
What great news about the wedding! You will look fantastic in your new dress. What a fun thing to go shopping for!!!!!
Congrats on the new baby too....what a great way to celebrate the holidays...
Anywho I am a big talker so I will stop for now but I am so glad you found us.
VERY nice to meet you!
Hugs,
Melissa
Welcome Theresa!!!! I am an October baby also. I had my surgery on the 4th...tomorrow is my 9th month out. I have lost 93 lbs since surgery and feeling out of this world!!! I feel so good that I don't have time to get on this site much anymore...lol. I have been remarried for 6 years and that is all I will say about that! I have 2 grown boys that are the love of my life. Chris is 20 (21 in Sept.) and Joey is 18. I have 2 big in house dogs. Chrissy is "Mommy's girl" and I bought Darth at the pound for my husband on his 40th birthday last year. They are both mutts but love them to death...mostly Chrissy because she is older and not as annoying as Darth is.
I would do this surgery in a heartbeat again also. I had really bad back problems and now that I have lost the weight I am cured!!!! I feel sooo much better and pleased with myself that I bit the bullet and had the surgery. I was looking at having to file disability if I didn't have the surgery and we all know how hard it is to get Social Security to understand your can not be productive in you job with a bad back. I will be 40 in August and decided that my life was not over yet.....so I had the surgery and really wish my husband would decide to do the same. He should know by my experience that he would feel soooo much better if he did.
I wish you luck as you continue your journey to being the new "you"! I don't think anyone on here regrets the fact that they had the surgery. I know we all had a few moments after the WLS that we thought we had lost our minds but the rewards have really paid off in the last serveral months.
Thanks for joining us
Lisa S
