I'm Stepping Up to Fight Diabetes!
Hello All!
On October 20, 2007, I am joining the American Diabetes Association's first ever Step Up to Fight Diabetes walk/climb in Philadelphia. This pilot walk is ten miles through the city and includes a thousand stairs. The walk will start at Temple University and include staircases "from Independence Park to City Hall, along the Schuykill River path to the Philadelphia Art Museum from the famously grand to the quirky and obscure."
I have never done anything like this and I'm a bit nervous about it, but I am determined to do it and I will. I'll walk because I can...and in gratitude for my health...and for those who cannot...and in memory of my big brother, John, who lost his life to this monster diabetes back in 1995, at age 41.
Current stats show that about 25% of Americans are diabetic or pre-diabetic and while incidences of death from other major diseases are decreasing annually, death from diabetes is increasing. Diabetes is now an epidemic. And diabetes has no mercy; it takes you piece by piece.
Money raised by this event will benefit the American Diabetes Association in their research and advocacy efforts, as well as services provided to diabetics and their families.
Every Climber, as they are calling us, is expected to raise a minimum of $1000. Of course, I want to raise as much as I possibly can. I'll be very grateful for all offers of financial support/sponsorship for my efforts.
For anyone who wishes to donate via check, I have a form I can email you that can be returned to me along with it. Checks should be made payable to the American Diabetes Association.
Please email me at kuriouserx2 @ yahoo.com.
For anyone who prefers to donate via the web, I'm told I will be able to set up a website for this within the week. I will post that info when I have it.
Thanks very much!
Lisa
